Pres Café Terms, Conditions and Rules

Updated: 12th February 2024

By registering with Pres Café you are signing up to the Terms/Conditions/Rules described below. Unregistered users who view Pres Café also agree to these Terms/Conditions/Rules (however, as unregistered users can't contribute content to the forum, Terms/Conditions/Rules that relate to this do not apply).

Failure to comply with the Terms/Conditions/Rules may result in the termination of your account, account suspension, or permanent ban from the Pres Café forums. Your IP Address is recorded with each post you make on this discussion system and is retrievable by the forum staff.

1. The Pres Café admin/mod team has the ability and right to remove, edit, or lock any account/post at any time should it see fit. Any information you enter on Pres Café is stored in a database, and "cookies" are stored on your computer to save your login information.

2. Any registration information you provide on Pres Café will not be disclosed to any third party without your complete consent, although the Pres Café admin/mod team cannot be held liable for any hacking attempt in which your data is compromised.

3. [NEW] Pres Café reserves the right to delete newly registered accounts that have not been signed into within a month of registration.

4. Whilst the Pres Café admin/mod team will attempt to edit or remove any messages containing inappropriate, sexually orientated, abusive, hateful, slanderous, or threatening material that could be considered invasive of a person's privacy, or which otherwise violate any kind of law, it is impossible for us to review every message posted on this forum.

5. All messages posted on Pres Café express the views and opinions of the original message author and are not necessarily the views of Pres Café. Therefore Pres Café takes no responsibility and cannot be held liable for any messages posted. Pres Café does not vouch for or warrant the accuracy and completeness of every message.

6. You should not post any material which is knowingly false, inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, sexually orientated, threatening or invasive of a person's privacy, or any other material which may violate any applicable laws.

7. You are permitted one user account with Pres Café. Users found to be registered under multiple accounts run the risk of having all their accounts banned - particularly where it's deemed to be a means of circumventing measures taken by the admin/moderation team or there is found to be malicious intent.

8. Mock-ups/recreations of logos, idents, programme titles/graphics and set designs are not permitted - and that includes discussion of mocks/recreations and posting links to mock/recreation content hosted elsewhere. Whilst previous incarnations of this forum provided an outlet for this type of material, we have no plans to do so. There will be zero tolerance regarding this rule.

9. [NEW] Requests for material (such as video/audio clips of presentation elements, programmes, theme tunes) is not permitted.

10. Discussion relating to the personal lives of on-air talent is not permitted.

11. Whilst we appreciate posters will have opinions about the performance of on-air/broadcast talent, these views should be expressed using measured language. Insulting/hateful remarks will be removed and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from Pres Café.

12. All posts are logged. A post that breaks Pres Café's Terms/Conditions/Rules but which the poster later deletes is still considered a breach of Pres Café's Terms/Conditions/Rules. Think before you post.

13. Please refrain from responding to posts for the sake of it, with statements that add no value.

14. Posting a link to a news article, website or any social media item without comment is not permitted, unless, for example, it is used as a means of answering a question from an earlier post. Starting a new thread in this manner will result in the thread being deleted.

15. Creating threads that contain no initial discussion element and that put the onus on others to generate discussion is not permitted.

16. Threads relating to the death of a celebrity/actor/media personality are not considered within the remit of Pres Café. Unless the individual has a significant connection with broadcast design/presentation, please refrain from creating such threads.

17. If a subject has been discussed in detail previously on either TV Forum or TV Live Forum please do not resurrect the subject on Pres Café unless you have something worthwhile to add to the discussion. And where you do have a valid reason for reopening the subject, please provide a link back to the original thread on TV Forum/TV Live Forum.

18. Do not post the same message in more than one forum/thread.

19. Presenter rota discussion is not permitted.

20. So-called fantasy programme schedule discussion is not permitted.

21. Reproducing content from an external website that has been protected by a paywall is not permitted. Providing links to locations where paywalled content has been reproduced is also not permitted.

22. If a member provides "insider information" other members should not pressure the individual into divulging additional information - and certainly should not send PMs/DMs to the source of the information, asking/demanding more details.

23. When bringing new information to the forum, please do not cite as sources publicly editable Wiki sites or unofficial websites/social media accounts with no history of credible/accurate information.

24. Do not make the same point/ask the same question repeatedly.

25. Political discussion is not permitted. Presentation-related discussion concerning political programming is fine.

26. Do not state supposition as fact.

27. Advertising of products/services is not permitted and will result in a permanent ban.

28. Do not post images, video or text-based content that has been obtained from private social media accounts without permission.

29. [NEW] When responding to a post, please do not quote large portions of the post, particularly where the post is lengthy and spans multiple paragraphs.

30. [REVISED] Please do not link to video/stills that have clearly been downloaded from a presentation website and reuploaded. Pres Café will proactively remove/block links to such material and any other content uploaded by the individuals responsible. We will take similar action where we believe an individual has downloaded and reuploaded content from other archivists without permission.

Registered Pres Café users who can be identified as having downloaded content from TV presentation websites/archivists and uploaded the content elsewhere will be issued with a permanent ban.

Pres Café software will automatically block links out to accounts that we are already aware of. In a situation where an offending account is identified retrospectively, we will endeavour to replace the link with one that hasn't been copied from elsewhere.

31. When you contribute posts on Pres Café, you should expect those posts to remain on the site indefinitely, unless you choose to delete your contribution within 15 minutes of posting. Posts may also be edited within 15 minutes of posting. If you wish to have your account deleted at a later date, your posts will be anonymised. Deleting all of a user's posts is not practical on a discussion forum.

32. We are aware of concerns about the maturity/quality of posts from a minority of contributors. Rest assured, this is on our radar. Whilst we do not wish to cause anyone's enthusiasm for the subject to become diminished, we need to ensure a balance for the broader readership. The admin/moderator team will act appropriately.

33. [REVISED] Newly registered users will have posts pre-moderated by default. This protects against bots and those intending to post disruptively/disregard site rules. The duration of the period of pre-moderation of posts is entirely at the discretion of the admin/moderator team. The admin/moderator team reserves the right to switch a user account to pre-moderation of posts at any time; this will generally be due to concerns about adherence to the forum's terms/conditions/rules.

34. [REVISED] Insulting, mocking or hateful remarks/abuse directed at other users or moderator/admin personnel - publicly (and that includes outside of this forum) or by private communication - will result in action being taken, ranging from warning to ban.

If one or more of your posts has been removed from Pres Café, this will generally have been because a member of the moderator/admin team has deemed the content to have broken our Terms/Conditions/Rules in some way.

[REVISED] Posters should not expect a written explanation for moderation actions, unless the case is deemed unusual or serious. The admin/moderator team operates this site as fairly/impartially as possible. A wide variety of views are expressed by posters across the site every day. An expectation of personalised explanations for every moderation decision is unrealistic.

If you believe a post is in breach of Pres Café's Terms/Conditions/Rules, please use the Report button on the offending post. Alternatively, you may use our Contact form or PM a member of the Pres Café Team.
