RE: BBC Sport - RhysJR - 05-06-2024

The newlook football fixtures & results on the BBC Sport website has some weird glitches. This week's friendlies are somehow sublassed as 'Friendlies 1, 2, 3' which makes little sense. It also a bit distracting how some countries/teams have flags/logos, whilst others from the same competitions do not (this is more egregious in the rugby union fixtures, where 3/16 URC teams are logo-less). And, whilst I appreciate the Women's European Qualifiers format is complex, the fixtures are organised only into groups not leagues - which means the page has listed the matches from, for example, League C Group 3 together with those from League A Group 3.

For som positives, the new system can let you find fixtures far into the future (you can click past the new year though it is obviously blank at the moment) whilst the old one only worked up to two weeks in advance. There's also a far greater scope in what gets a more detailed individual match page that can be linked to. These pages also have more information on I believe.

The lack of flags caused an issue on Twitter when the absence of a flag for Israel during their matches against Scotland was seen by some as deliberate act by the BBC.

Is it just me, or is there no link/share button on articles on the BBC Sport app? I'm using Android. I updated it to the latest version, and whilst there is now always a cast button in the top right corner, there is no way that I can see to share articles, which is quite annoying if you do want to send a story on to someone.

A bit more context would be helpful. Lack of a flag where, on a Tweet? On broadcast? Was it a graphic that included a flag for Scotland but not for Isreal?

Generally if a broadcaster regularly covers a national team that flag is part of the branding and you’d only expect the oppositions teams flag (or crest) to appear in certain graphics such as lower thirds relating to that team.

It was In reply to my post above, where I was saying the newlook fixtures & results section(s) of the BBC Sport website is missing some flags/logos for some nations/teams. In the example below, Mexico, Uruguay, Wales, Netherlands and Canada all have flags correctly displayed next to them, but Gibraltar (and all the Under 21s teams further down the page) are all without a flag, which was also the case at some point with the Israel women's team (they do now have a flag).

On the website. You can see the mix and match of flag vs no flag
for today’s matches. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scores-fixtures

Oh yes. Well there are loads of countries showing with no flag. Interestingly Isreal now has one but Greece and Mexico don’t. Anyway I don’t think it’s a political motivated decision.

The list of presenters and commentators, alongside the platforms to watch or listen to Wimbledon, have been shared by the BBC, which is claiming exclusive coverage: i thought both Eurosport and BBC provided equal coverage of Wimbledon in the UK, or has this changed from this year?

Eurosport only have the finals live.

Pretty much the same line up as last year but they really do now need to drop or demote Andrew Castle. Andrew Cotter is by far the better commentator and the drop in quality when switching from Cotter to Castle last year was very noticeable.

That's not gonna happen, because Castle is the head honcho at Wimbledon, like John Bartlett was when he was paired up with Dan Maskell back in the 80s.
