I must admit, I did find it odd when Mark Goodier said "I've been Mark Goodier, Thanks for listening" at the end of Friday Morning's show (While covering for Ken Bruce). It Sounded like a very abrupt (and odd) way to leave a Job that he's had for the past 5 years.

And from the sounds of it, I don't think he announced anything on air beforehand either which makes things even more strange. If he knew he was going to be leaving GHR on Friday then he should have announced it earlier in the week, Or at the very least, Announce it at the beginning of Friday's show rather than a very obscure "Goodbye" at the very end

I must be the only person on Pres Cafe that enjoys Simon's album show? The rare tracks are a treat.

Not a terribly well-kept secret but one of the displaced Wave 105 presenters, Steve Power, is joining Nation to do two daily shows on its stations in the South - breakfast on Easy and drivetime on Nation itself.

His first shows are on Wednesday - same day as Sun FM's rebrand to Nation in the North East. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up doing shows for other Nation stations, as well.

Looks like he is going to be doing 2pm till 6pm on a Saturday & 12pm till 4pm on a Sunday across the whole lot of 'Nation' branded stations.

Quote:Ben Cooper, Chief Content and Music Officer at Bauer Media Audio UK will depart the business later this month after four years.

Ben joined Bauer during lockdown in 2020 and oversaw a new way of bringing together its radio stations into one portfolio, with record RAJAR listening figures and over 23 million people tuning in every week.

During his time at the company, he played a part in successfully evolving Greatest Hits Radio which has become the most listened to commercial radio station in the UK, overseeing talent signings including Ken Bruce and Jackie Brambles, and more recently Marvin Humes and Alex Scott at KISS.

Ben Cooper said, “I’ve had a fantastic time at Bauer winning new audiences in new ways, with record breaking listening figures, including the industry changing success of Ken Bruce and Greatest Hits Radio.

“It’s been a privilege to have led my talented team through a time of huge change, of renewed creative ambition, and exciting innovation, and we are in a strong position for me to hand over the baton.”

Interesting OFCOM adjudication regarding local news coverage on GHR in Salisbury (formerly Spire FM)

Bauer discloses it had planned to replace bespoke bulletins for Salisbury as a pilot with a county-wide service for Wiltshire because it considered the localised news as too "jarring and parochial" during Ken and Simon.

Instead, they went for a combined bulletin containing stories from Hampshire and South Wiltshire.

It didn't work entirely - and by March, they reverted back to the bespoke Salisbury news on weekdays with county-wide Wiltshire bulletins at weekends introduced at the end of January.

OFCOM considered the matter resolved.

Should Bauer be allowed to change the news output because of 'jarring and parochial' stories in what they're describing as 'industry-leading shows'?

They are the ones who have decided to put these 'industry-leading shows' out on very small commercial radio licences across the country?

I would presume that if they made the decision to do it full-time, Ofcom would look dimly on it. I'm somewhat surprised that they didn't consider it a breach even in these circumstances, but the resolution is to return to the 'jarring and parochial' stories.

RE: General Bauer Radio Discussion - Steve in Pudsey - 20-05-2024

The decision write up is clear that what constitutes local news is open to debate, and the guidelines are just guidelines. That, and the fact that it's no longer happening, is probably why they are considering it resolved.
