Nor have I, but it doesn't make any sense to start the bulletin without it, and end it with it fully assembled...

So the evening programme opened without the tree visible, so I do suspect it's a conscious choice as it appeared after the news roundup. The rights/wrongs/whys and wherefores on such a decision aside - let's not forget that these 4 children died weeks before Christmas playing - and the family and friends of those kids will never view Christmas the same again, so maybe that's why?

Is Midlands today tree not just a case of clever camera framing. From reviewing the opening of Midlands Today the location of the tree will be just out of view in the opening shot, which is quite clever placement for the more sombre news story.

Of course East Midlands Today can't do theat due to their tree being directly behind the sofa.

It’s usually up around the same time the West Midlands switches to its Christmas backdrop, and that’s been for about a month or so.

I'm not sure about other BBC regions but does anyone feel the overhead lighting in the studio completely washes out the background screens? Ever since they've moved to the new studio. Especially with the weather - the weather map always looks especially murky & pale rather than a nice vibrant green & blue image. Or the gamma of the screens is set completely wrong, they should go to lagom.nl to calibrate their screens. I would say it looks worse than the old studio.

The weather map itself looks as though it's being output at SD resolution and upscaled, we know these screens handle HD inputs but the blurriness around letters through the upscale is bordering on awful. I suspect this is to do with how they currently overlay them to OBs in the mixer - they effectively add a magenta background to everything they don't want to be seen, and key it out so just the graphics remain - a technique they've used since 2008 - issue is it's starting to show it's flaws and it's age.

There is definitely something wrong with something, but I think it's only particular cameras and particular shots as you said it's very obvious during celebrity squares when you compare them to other regions, including Tunbridge Wells who are still on the ancient Thomson cameras and Grass Valley mixer...

I would show you a cap but unfortunately the camera they were sending down the line was not the opening shot on today's Six...

I would suggest it's again a racking issue with the cameras themselves, similar to the strange green colour the PTZ was emitting before (which while still not perfect, does look better than before) - which speaking of, doesn't have washed out screens in it, as opposed to a major lighting issue.

The weather at the end of Midlands Today just looks washed out, dull, murky, soft focus - you can see the lights bleaching out the colour on the screen. Also, it is poorly centered for Shefali presenting, it appears too high for her. During Breakfast, when the weather is presented from a green screen with one of the generic forecasters from several regions like Gillian Brown, the vibrancy of the colour & sharpness is far superior to when it is presented from the MT studio. And this is with the new cameras, as well as the old.

Plus, those imageson Twitter/X above are dreadful with so much interference and Moire effect, something which is difficult to hide in most broadcasts, never mind which angle is used.
