The new channel is going to be administratively a single operation funded out of a single budget contributed to by both licence payers and BBC World News' advertising revenue. BBC World News' budget is around £90-110m and, given the figures quoted about the savings to be made from 'merging' the News channel, about £30-35m will come from the UK licence fee. Ultimately, the new channel's budget will be more than twice that of the previous BBC News channel's budget, though about 20% smaller than the previous combined budgets for both channels.

I would suggest that BBC News do not in future mention commercial channels to comply with Ofcom.

I'm sorry but I haven't been watching as much recently, also I can't stand Outside Source (personal preference). I never had a problem with the 2am bulletin having this as it was a BBC World News production (BBC Studios) paid for commercially not through the licence fee, was broadcast overnight when a majority of UK-based viewers sleep. This issue I'm stating as far as I'm concerned is that during the day, BBC News paid for by licence holders should not include any name check to a commercial organisation anywhere in the World.
So you're happy for PBS in the US to be name checked at 8pm, 2am and 4am because you're not watching then, but you don't want PBS name checked at 9am because you're watching at that time?
How about when they go to CBS or ABC news correspondents for the latest on a story from the US? Are you against them mentioning what news organisation the correspondent is from?

As you feel so strongly about this, I assume you'll be complaining - you'll need to go through the BBC complaints process first, and then complain to OFCOM. I'd be interested to hear the responses you get. (Insert roll eyes emoji here)

Re users preferring the NC intro sequence… why? I’ve never really been a fan of it, it’s too long, musically bit of a mess and why would you want a pan of an empty newsroom with a fake hoop embedded? Pointless imo!

RE: BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger - Michael Power - 06-03-2023

tbh when the NC first did the newsroom opening sequence 10 years ago, I honestly thought it was a temporary "hey look at our new newsroom that we moved into" intro. Didn't think it would've been a permanent intro.

That article suggests the licence payer would be funding a bulk of this merged service? I thought advertising from world would be?

Sorry if it's been covered earlier in the thread, but will there be a clock on the UK feed of the new channel?

While it's what we've come to expect from a news channel, arguably it's better not to have one nowadays as it's wrong for anyone watching online.

The headline sequences on the new eternal simulcast seem shorter than they were on the old NC. Was it always like this on World? It’s very welcome, in any case.

Yes, on standard World News bulletins headline sequences were still only about 45/50 seconds + titles (though longer on the branded programmes). As you say, it is certainly preferable to the News channel headlines which are often nearly 90 seconds before titles. Though I think we could do without the 'in the UK and around the globe' introduction at the TOTH and then after the titles.
