Any word on what they are doing with Singapore as part of the new channel? Briefly tuned in for the Trump news but it was error strewn and very stilted. Feels a bit like a student production.

That’s a shame!

Kasia’s another excellent presenter and has presented many WN slots over the years. Her insight into Polish affairs has also proved invaluable at times, such as during elections there. Another real loss to the BBC.

On the point of timings and when will they broadcast from where: it’s seemingly been confirmed by London overnight floor manager @SwimmersJackson on Twitter that it’s 5am until Midnight London (possibly 11pm, if Newsday is unchanged, with opt capability until midnight); the Singapore and Washington coverage will be midnight until 5am. Presumably that will work out as a single shift from Washington, equivalent to 2am-5am UK and Newsday and Asia Business Report unchanged from Singapore before that. This means it’s only one overnight shift axed in London (2am-5am) and the “broadcast day” still starts at 5am GMT.

I believe the delays and awkward pauses are because Newsday is ultimately produced by the gallery in London, and only limited operations are conducted by the Singapore team. This means there will be DTL delays and pauses almost as a feature of the programme. It’s not impossible to get around that (as Katty and Christian showed) but very hard - and especially so if you don’t have the London presenter to bounce off.

Newsday worked best back when they had the dual cities presentation in the Singapore and London studios - with Babita & Rico or Kasia & Sharanjit. It’s a shame they don’t bring that back, as Newsday now airs ever earlier in the UK and it would be less obviously Asia focused if it was presented from the two locations - but clearly that would be expensive and the objective at the moment is cost-cutting.

That’s a really touching tweet. Annita is an excellent presenter of rolling news and I will really miss seeing her regularly. It is very kind of her to be taking the time to send a message to viewers when her own future may be in doubt. At least it seems that she will still be appearing from time to time, if the BBC are keeping her and Martine.

I really think a lot of the BBC’s presenters from the NC are more natural with rolling and breaking news, especially, compared to most world presenters. The likes of Annita, Jane Hill, Ben Brown, Joanna Gosling, Shaun Ley, Martine Croxall and Reeta Chakrabarti can all deal with any story with ease - whereas some of the WN faces can be a bit stilted. Yalda, Matthew and Lucy are all good - but I’m not so sure about many of the others. Meanwhile, even less-frequent presenters, such as Rebecca Jones, have been excellent and unflappable on the domestic channel.

They should be doubling down on Singapore but alas. Hugely underreported region and a real point of difference from CNNI
and AJE.

Probably just a minor placement error. I've seen several times in the Asia-Pacific feed a promo for South Asia.

Off-topic: I've seen more of that on CNN International, I've been promos or South Asia (Delhi/Islamabad) or North America (Los Angeles/Miami) in the CNNI Asia-Pacific feed.

Of course, she'll be back 1 - 2pm but only for World viewers.

I can see something needing to be done before the year's end when the venture doesn't work and they realize that they needed more News Presenters not less and that News Operations are separate for a reason.
