RE: BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger - Jimbo2022 - 08-01-2023

Thanks. For BBC radio it seems

Radio 1 and Asian Network share news bulletins originating in Birmingham (or maybe they have nit moved yet!)
Radio 2 is Studio 6D Wogan House 0630-2200 (weekends 0800-2200)
2300-0600 (weekends 2300-0700) is from Studio WL1 NBH
6 Music news is Wogan House 4th floor - same team as Radio 2 daytime
Radio 4 appears to be Studio WL2 NBH
Radio 5 live is Salford 0600-2200 and Radio 2 simulcast 2300-0500 but sone others are from Radio 2 as well.
Local Radio all-England news bulletins are 1900-0000 weekdays (1400-0000 Saturday/Sunday) - not Saturday during football season - all from a separate team in Salford and not broadcast on 5 live. Radio 2 news is on local radio Saturday 1400-0500 Sunday during the football season where news us broadcast

Sorry to go a bit OT but I also heard last year that news on Radio 2 was meant to be going to Salford - and 6 music is meant to be going to Salford too

Does anyone happen to know if it will be a brand new team doing news on Radio 2/6 when Wogan House closes?  I suspect the changes won't happen before Wigan House closes. Thanks.

Weekend News programmes are now only onBBC1. That I had not noticed as I thought these would also return after Christmas

Very sad.

It's not sad, there was never any good reason for BBC 1 weekend bulletins to go out on the NC, other than the fact it was a necessity due to the NC and BBC 1 news both sharing the same studio.
From a scheduling POV, BBC 1 weekend bulletins going out on the NC just disrupted the regular hourly schedule of the NC, especially if the BBC 1 bulletin is on at an awkward time for the NC, such as 1755 - 1810 for instance.

I suppose it makes sense. But when did weekend bbc1 bulletins actually end on NC?

They were last shown the weekend before Christmas.

Thank you for confirming that. I thought so but I was not absolutely sure when it changed.

So this is an additional cut we did nit know of. Thanks

Is Sportsday produced using the NC's budget or BBC Sport's own budget? I get that budgets have to be cut but I don't see why the late edition have to be axed. If anything they could expand Sportsday by 30 minutes instead of playing recorded programmes to add more variety without spending extra NC budget.

Not certain but Sportsday us the only buts that come from Salford. Theoretically they could have more Sportsday given it us in Salford but how that would work is anyone's guess.

Looks like the weekend has been chopped to what it will eventually be. The weekday cuts will probably still be done sadly before the end of March.

Surely it’s a good thing that the BBC One/NC simulcasts are gone. If you want a short, UK focused bulletin at the weekend, tune to BBC One. If you want a longer, international bulletin, watch the BBC News channel.

I never thought there’d be a point where people are actually complaining that they have more choice.

RE: BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger - ALV - 08-01-2023

It seems the BBC One weekend lunchtime bulletin is now produced by the WN's afternoon shift team rather than the NC's morning team after NC no longer simulcasts it. On 7/1 Luxmy Gopal presented the weekend lunchtime bulletin at 12PM, then she reappeared on NC/WN at 2-7PM.

Because it isn't actually choice is it?
