I find it worrying that the already 'merged' weekend service hasn't touched on it at the top of the hour.

Did Sky?

Yes she did! ( sorry I don't know her name and only flicked over to check) It was on the ticker almost immediately.

EDIT: It was the second story on the early evening network bulletin.

It's OK, we keep being told that everything the News Channel does is not unique and available elsewhere across the BBC, apparently.

I'm currently watching World News and it was mentioned earlier, albeit only briefly.

But - just to recap - you literally found it out from the BBC. The alert will have taken you to the app. What more will the news channel have told you beyond what was successfully pushed out to you?

RE: BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger - DTV - 14-01-2023

For the record, it was the third story on the TOTH headlines on the BBC News channel (four of the six headlines were UK-related, though two were justifiably of international relevance). I didn't make full status within the bulletin itself, but that might be because they didn't have a package ready or reporter on the scene yet.

The story was covered on the BBC News website, app and social media channels (more used than the BBC News channel)
It was a headline on the evening BBC News bulletin (more watched than the BBC News channel)
And was covered on radio (at least on PM and would be given rolling news status on 5 Live were it not Saturday afternoon)

We can always count on you to provide such wholesome reading @ANP and especially when it comes to this topic.

A shooting, Central London, a Saturday and in a Church. Now surely the normal reactionary thing people do would be to tune into their preferred source of news, that is unless you're what? Next/new generation?

RE: BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger - Scratch_Perry - 14-01-2023

Watching the 8pm bulletin on the News Channel and the shooting was reported on at around 12 minutes past and the report was accompanied with a still picture, rather than a reporter on the scene.

Looks like this is the shape of things to come...

Going back to the topic of autocues. As someone who never worked in the industry I always assumed one of the producers would run the autocue while on-air. This might be a stupid question but are/were there actual positions where the only task is/was to run the autocue?

Yes.
