What a shame. Yalda is by far one of the best presenters the BBC has, and one of the few benefits of the merger has been getting to watch her in the UK these last few months

And now Yalda adds to the growing talent drain at BBC News. I wonder if they'll bump someone else up to chief presenter to replace Maryam now she's taking over The Daily Global

RE: Newsroom Movers and Shakers - London Lite - 26-07-2023

With respect to Yalda, I don't think she's really gelled into the new UK/Global format well. When she had to provide UK domestic news, she really didn't handle it well.

She really excels when she's on location however and hope she'll continue in that form.

I'm sad to hear this. She would have been the perfect successor to John Simpson, though something better is clearly coming her way. Onya Yalda, as they say down under!

RE: Newsroom Movers and Shakers - harshy - 26-07-2023

She seemed to spend too much time on location, compared to the other presenters seemed to spend the least time in the studio, I am guessing she wants to spend more time on the foundation and do those talks which I think she was doing only a few days ago.

Her role on The Daily Global will be taken on by Maryam Moshiri.

“The successful daily global show” LOL pull the other one. The worst episode of Impact was better than TDG.

As for Yalda, she might be returning home? Perhaps something with the ABC?

I doubt it (although if they do, Nancy Kacungira is the most likely). It feels like they have someone different in each slot everyday.

But there’s no denying she’s an exemplary journalist

That's part of the problem with the new format - just like there are viewers who will think there is either too much UK news or too much World News that's likely to apply to the presenters too considering how separate operations have been previously.    Newsreaders surely want to feel like they're giving their audience the information they need to know and want to know, rather than information that they may, rightly or wrongly, not consider relevant.

I do wonder though if this is why the BBC have held on to some of those employees not seen since March, knowing that Yalda and perhaps others were due to move on later in the year.

Whoever Yalda ends up with is incredibly lucky. An exceptional broadcaster. Totally agree she’s the next John Simpson, could quite easily see her as lead anchor or chief correspondent for any news organisation.

You were right. She is off to Sky News.
