That's big news but good innings for Kochie. I would imagine it'll be the host of Weekend Sunrise who takes over.

Well... the Mail is being told it won't be Matt Doran (who is the Weekend Sunrise host), but rather 7 Sport host (and former Olympian) Matt Shirvington, who has already filled-in for him in multiple occasions (including during the recent summer break).

As for Kochie, he's focusing on his other business ventures, including his media marketing agency Pinstripe Media, his partnership on business streaming network ausbiz, and especially as GM of AFL squad Port Adelaide Football Club.

Leyla Hayes has gone freelance. She was on ITV News at the weekend and reporting for BBC London tonight.

I remember watching Sunrise years ago because I'd just woken up from a long sleep and jetlag in my hotel room in Melbourne only intending to watch for a bit and being interested in the show, it was Kochie and Mel IIRC.

I think a few of the people from Sunrise and Today have been DTL contributors Mark Beretta was on GMB about the Ashes, Richard Wilkins was interviewed on GMB because he broke down live on air after the death of Olivia Newton John and weirdly This Morning had an interview with Alex Cullen's Mum because of some incident involving mice which was referenced by the team at Today.

Chuck Todd will be bowing down from moderating NBC's Meet the Press; current Weekend Today co-anchor Kristen Welker will be taking the spot:

A well deserved promotion for Welker. I have generally thought NBC News' political correspondents are really fond of their job and really love what they do, and both Todd and Welker are no exception. However, I think the move has to do more with ratings and credibility than being purely Todd's personal decision.

Since the death of Tim Russert, MTP's ratings have been declining in big ways, mainly due to ABC's This Week taking on a "trendier" presentation since the return of George Stephanopoulos (and his eventual succession by Martha Raddatz and Jonathan Karl) and Face the Nation having a more journalistic approach under Margaret Brennan (and thanks to being the lead-out for Sunday Morning and the bridge to NFL coverage). Even if the ratings have recovered under Todd (after the difficult David Gregory tenure, and still is #1 in some periods, alternating with Face the Nation), MTP is nowhere as dominant as before, but has successfully found a new audience thanks to the brand taking these risks by extending it to the daily MSNBC/NBC News Now show and its branded events.

Yes, Todd and Welker are no Tim Russert nor Andrea Mitchell, but they have successfully continued their legacy by being fully dedicated and passionate for what they do. In my opinion, NBC News has had consistently the best network political team, so no doubt Welker will be a very great successor for him.
