Just to say, you're not the only one who noticed. I thought they'd been taking pictures or video of a feed screen (perhaps the dark slide?) but it could well have been selfies. It wasn't great.
According to a tweet I saw earlier, they got told off for it.

I wonder if it means future documentries will use the initial announcement, rather than the "news report" version, as surely the people behind Huw on their phones is going to look terrible.
In the future its probably not going to look any more or less terrible than the footage of the thousands of mawkish mourners who felt they needed to immediately travel to Buckingham Palace for a selfie. It might have been disrespectful and crass but it happened. It was an unfortunate sign of the times so show it I say.

Sunday with LK started without any music or the titles, with the 'LK' logo in the studio and graphics on the LED screen on the front of the desk in monochrome

RE: Queen Elizabeth Dies - Frances - 11-09-2022

NC is carrying Sunday with Laura K.

RE: Queen Elizabeth Dies - ALV - 11-09-2022

The NC and WN is taking Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. On the WN, there is an interesting continuity where they have made a trail showing photos of HM The Queen in replacement of the usual promos before fading into the sombre countdown. Because Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg didn't start at the TOTH, they showed the filler straight after the sombre countdown until the show starts...

On a side note, I've been paying attention to the sombre countdown on the NC and WN these past two days. The WN version still has the old DOG while on the NC the countdown (usually seen on overnights) has been "number-less". The NC countdown in the overnight is not a filler because the countdowns starts in midway rather than at the start of the music.

Unfortunate picture break-up on BBC coverage as the hearse was leaving Balmoral.

RE: Queen Elizabeth Dies - UTVLifer - 11-09-2022

The picture did break up slightly on GMB (who are staying on until 11:30) as well as the hearse was leaving Balmoral.

Annita McVeigh (BBC News) and Kate Garraway (ITV) striking the right tone on this morning’s coverage. Annita did particularly well.

BBC News coverage is ongoing with Jane Hill anchoring, supported by Martin Geissler and Robert Lacey, both of whom are in the studio.

Not sure which studio they’re in. We’ve only had their vocal input so far.

BBC One and BBC News have now gone their separate ways

BBC News is continuing to cover the Queen’s coffin travelling from Balmoral

BBC One is covering the Nation’s proclamations in the same studio as yesterday with Sophie Raworth

ITV are going to be covering both in the same programme

On ITV we’ve just had a nations opt out explained with all 3 presenters shown on screen and mentions of UTV, ITV Wales and STV. Viewers in those nations are getting the relevant proclamation with viewers in England getting the Edinburgh one

RE: Queen Elizabeth Dies - Tony Lamezma - 11-09-2022

A great touch from ITV to hand over to UTV and ITV Wales for viewers to see their local proclamation live, a seamless handover explained by Julie.

Looks like G-INTV is in the air over Aberdeenshire to cover this event for broadcasters.

Question. How are the heli pictures getting out to the world.

Is the helicopter kitted with liveU / starlink or similar to broadcast the images, or has there been truck and tracking dishes setup on hill somewhere to provide an uplink.

I ask as some of the coverage has been quite rural and the PQ has been quite stable.
