Who paid for the broadcast?

My understanding is that the broadcasting pool paid for everything in terms of cameras, helicopters, sound, crew, installation and derig, etc.

And the "event" itself (hire of St Paul's, Bank Holiday costs, closing the roads...) was paid for by the taxpayer, ie the Government. 

The family themselves presumably paid for the private service at the end of the day, which wasn't broadcast or recorded anyway.

So how can Buckingham Palace possibly claim any kind of ownership over the footage on the day?

Death certificate's now been released, she died at 15:10- so 3 hours and 20 minutes before the official announcement, and 1 hour and 20 minutes before we know Liz Truss was told:

I think this is fascinating for a number of reasons - but also given the speculation about when the media found out, the fact that Deborah Turness and Tim Davie were both in the gallery at 6.30pm clearly indicates they had at least a few minutes warning.

I really wish this would stop coming up, they did not have several hours... They had about 5-10 minutes, And I mean for the actual death announcement.

Sure you could see what was coming for a bit but no one knew 100% in the media until 5-10 minutes before.

What surprises me most about that BBC clip is the amount of people in the gallery, that seems almost a distractingly high amount so good job by the staff there to keep focused.

Finally we get a short look at how the death announcement was handled at the gallery. Kudos to all those in the gallery that no doubt had their biggest test in their careers.
