To confirm, the NFL owners did vote in favour in expanding the number of overseas games in future, from 2025 this will be up to eight games a year. 2024 will see an increase to have the first ever game in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Unlike the European venues, the timezone of Sao Paulo wouldn't be ideal for a fourth kick-off on the Sunday. Last year's game in Mexico City was a Monday night game, so possible that Sao Paulo could be the same?

At the same meeting, it will / has been confirmed that Super Bowl LXI in 2027 will take place in the SoFi Stadium in Ingelwood, California. This will be the first to be shown on ABC since 2006.

The full confirmed Super Bowl schedule:
2024: Las Vegas (CBS)
2025: New Orleans (Fox)
2026: Santa Clara (NBC)
2027: Los Angeles (ABC)

Quite revolutionary that the Peacock exclusive NFL match on Saturday will have an ad-free fourth quarter.

Not sure if it’s just the feed Sky are getting but some of the usual musical cues seem to be missing on this game (the player introductions went out with no backing music, for example, as did the NFL ident pre game).

The full build up was apparently on NBC, right up to kick off, exorting people to subscribe to Peacock via a QR code DOG. The replay wipe and DOG replaced with a Peacock specific one but otherwise normal NBC SNF graphics.

I was watching via Game Pass and thought the same.

The ad-free fourth quarter worked very well IMO. In the first half of the quarter, instead of going to ad breaks, Peacock instead either went to the studio or to the booth, with these sections being sponsored as is customary (Hyundai sponsoring the studio, Capital One the booth). These segments were general overviews and analysis of the upcoming matches this week (e.g. the booth looked at the 49ers ahead of Monday Night Football). As the quarter went on, where there would normally be breaks were harder to see as I think they just kept showing the on-field action; this was certainly the case on the two minute warning. Walmart also got credited for sponsoring the ad-free quarter at the end, though I didn't see when their sponsorships popped up.

All in all, a successful experience. Obviously, NFL lends itself quite well to having numerous ad breaks due to its many stoppages, and adverts during play will obviously be quite lucrative, so I'm not sure how often this will or could be repeated.

And congratulations to Melissa Stark for her 100th NFL game as a sideline reporter today working on the Peacock game.

Christmas Day sees the next Nickelodeon NFL broadcast. Great news to hear the virtual slime cannons have been upgraded(!) The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Raphael and Donatello will join the broadcast team (something I never thought I'd write).

The rule requiring NFL Redzone in the US to break away with one game left in play operating particularly hard tonight - the last game left (Dallas at Miami) was so near conclusion that there was only enough time for one play left - you’d think some flexibility would have been shown there.

RE: American Sports Presentation - Rdd - 25-12-2023

Very surprised that Sky brought Hannah Wilkes, Phoebe Schecter and Jeff Reinebold in to do the Christmas Day NFL games - thought they’d likely be “whistle to whistle” given the day that’s in it. (Merry Christmas!).

Al Michaels has confirmed he will return for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime US next season. It will be the third and final year of his contract, so it feels quite likely his illusturious career will only have 12 months left.

Here are the best bits of the Nickmas broadcast. With the Nickleodeon broadcast, and the Taylor Swift factor, the broadcast of the games was the most watched NFL broadcast on Christmas Day since 1989, and the most watched Christmas Day programme ever on CBS.

College Football takes priority on Monday (New Years Day) so the final regular season Monday Night Footballs of the season are on Saturdays, and they retain the original branding.
