Government re-examining case for selling Channel 4 - Keith - 20-09-2022
Not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but couldn't see a suitable existing thread. It looks like a potential u-turn on privatising Channel 4 may be on the cards based on an interview the new culture secretary did with R4's Today programme.

Like most things direction of policy is determined more by who's in the post than anything else, and then a reshuffle happens and what happens to the idea afterwards looks nothing like what was planned, if it happens at all.
Like Local TV for example. Painted as this wonderful vision of US Local TV but in the UK when it was tooted, and then the MP responsible for that vision decides to up sticks and bugger off, leaving their replacement to oversee the disaster that we now know as local TV.

It was widely suggested that the plans were purely a result of a long-held grudge against Channel 4 by Nadine Dorries, because they showed a reality show/documentary that made her look bad.

Developments today… Looks like the privatisation plans have been binned, but C4 may be allowed to make some of their own programmes.

Technically, C4 have made some programmes before, Right To Reply was made directly by them, as were the first 4 years of T4 (though there's an argument that falls into being continuity rather than an actual programme), though it looks like we could be getting it on a major scale.
