Back when journalists were on strike before at STV, and I'm going back to the late 1990s, STV had news on GMTV, but it was presented by a producer, Dennis Mooney, and there was no 6pm bulletin, an edition of Take Your Pick was shown instead.

Couldn’t have done that without causing even more trouble as it is.

Would have been okay this morning because it wasn’t STV’s own airtime - but to rely on an ITV plc service to fill at 6pm would have been problematic.

For starters how would border viewers feel about seeing some stories from STV land, as far away as Inverness? How would they get a reporter there? And, its two STV areas, two licences, affected today, North and Central. So very difficult to do.

How much Scottish news (specifically things like the Scottish Government and Parliament) is covered on Lookaround in a generic day/week?

Not quite sure you’ve got the right idea there.

Putting out Lookaround on STV - and during STV’s airtime - would simply lead to a whole heap of management and union problems of their own.

It would unnecessarily drag ITV into the dispute.

The only Border journalists based in STV’s area are the political unit based at Holyrood.

I couldn’t say about Lookaround - but ITV’s Holyrood unit is kept busy enough producing a thrice-weekly political programme for Border’s Scottish patch after NaT and has been for well over a decade now.

In some ways, they do a better job in covering day-to-day Scottish politics and covering it from a more local, rather than national, perspective.

On Good Morning Britain yesterday, was there any special announcement made for STV viewers, explaining why they were receiving Lookaround instead of STV news?

I don't recall hearing any mention during their GMB yesterday.

And tomorrow's strike has now been cancelled. Wonder whether there will be a reduction in broadcasts due to it being called off at such late notice.

NUJ says fresh talks are being held over the current pay dispute - although they haven't ruled out further action on 1st May, which coincides with the AGM of STV's shareholders.
