Ah yes, Mission Broadcasting, the company Nexstar uses to get around caps and market sizes. I think WADL will get CW programming, they can push the My Network TV programming down the line up somewhere. WMYD and Scripps are waiting to see what happens with Bally Sports and to see if they can get some sports rights there.

On WANF-TV and WUPA, I don't think removing the CBS logo means that could mean CBS is going, there's many CBS stations without the eye, they don't really force the logo like ABC does. Also, also there's a Bally Sports there and CBS could be opening up WUPA for some rights. I do hope Gray is also ready , could be a nice return to Braves (but not on TBS but TBS' old station feed) baseball on Peachtree TV.

The full 2023 season schedule was announced Thursday, with additional acquisitions including the Channel 4 series Everyone Else Burns, German drama The Swarm (from ZDF), another Canadian comedy, Children Ruin Everything (originally commissioned by Bell Media and Roku), and the Adrian Buitenhuis series of celebrity documentaries (often called the I Am collection). All American will premiere when the season starts, and Walker is now a midseason replacement.

Brad Schwartz plans are clear: there will be more reliance on imports and unscripted fare, and says the network will be "no longer built for the benefit of studios" (referring on how CBS and WB managed the network) and defending Nexstar's operation of the network (due to its cash flow results, comparing it favorably with those of Fox). He announced over 70 new series in development, including unscripted shows created by Jersey Shore developer SallyAnn Salsano, ex-HBO Max reality chief Jen O’Connell, and another starring Patti Stanger. He also announced plans to partner with All3Media to contribute production credits to the ITVX drama Joan (starring Sophie Turner) and commissioned a reboot spin-off of one of the network's most popular shows, The Librarians.

Three shows are still on the limbo (Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights & All American: Homecoming), but Brad Schwartz says these shows are expensive, and The CW doesn't have the streaming rights (HBO Max do), something which he told as “frustrating”.

I suspect they're trying to negotiate better streaming rights but suspect they'll hit a brick wall - and that along with a writers strike which doesn't look like it'll end anytime soon will give them the excuse to dump them. They'd rather have certainty than uncertainty.


Now if this was a few years ago in such circumstances I'd have been confident in WB putting another season on their own streaming service but as we've seen WBD cut back themselves on scripted I'm not so sure. Indeed they may be more interested in seeing if they could flog it to Netflix or Amazon, but ultimately I don't think it looks good for any of them.

Not quite: The CW has bought rights to Inside the NFL, after Paramount's cost cutting ended the third incarnation of the show on Paramount+.

Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming have been renewed. However, according to Deadline, these shows will have big budget cuts and will lose some of its cast members. In the other hand, Gotham Knights has been canceled to due to high production costs and its more average ratings in contrast to its fellow legacy series (including Walker and All American).

The CW is also venturing into religious programming (well, sort of). It has picked up Angel Studios' Christian/biblical drama The Chosen, which already airs on the company's own streamer, as well as Peacock (in the US), Netflix (internationally) and on Christian cable channel BYUtv. The CW will air all three seasons back-to-back starting next Sunday (and every Sunday), with the season 3 finale airing on Christmas Eve. The Adrian Buitenhuis celebrity documentaries will now serve as the midseason replacement.

I shouldn't be surprised, but kind of was at least with KRON since they have a moderately successful news block there, guessing corporate is more a force than anything else. Nexstar is buying a low power station in Tampa so the newscasts on TTA could move here. WPHL-TV will be interesting, I think they were doing better in ratings in the CW hours against the current WPSG-TV.
