RE: Social Media Pres Gold - Clean Feed - 14-08-2022

This December 1980 clip from ADC TV Collection - TVSProductions82 includes a full BBC One closedown.

The National Anthem is a version we've not heard before. There was a slow version that was typically played in the event of a Royal death. But this is not it.

Any ideas about this one?

A couple of picture sync issues in there too - which were relatively uncommon on network.

3:25 for the 'rare' long version of the UFO ident from C4.

re the Peter Bolgar news report clip, I think the announcers had a bit more freedom on BBC 2, certainly at Closedown.

I assume the script must have arrived last minute, possibly dictated over the phone, for Peter not to have had a read through.

The two-colour striped "BBC1" logo from the 1976 - 1985 slide design is familiar to many of us.  Rarely did we ever get to see an equivalent "BBC2" logo.

There was quite a bit of experimentation with different cross-channel promotion slide designs in 1980/1981.  And in this clip from August 1980, we get to see the aforementioned version of the "BBC2" logo.

Though I do suspect the "BBC" lettering may have been borrowed from the BBC One slides of the time, and the '2' created separately (note the slightly different colouring).

Nice to see they give the plot away, on the repeat...

In fairness, I doubt there was a person in the country that didn't know about this. It was such a huge story at the time.

Spotted by David Caldwell and flagged on Twitter...

...a very unusual breakdown slide shown briefly as a result of a fault during Top Gear.

BBC Two ditched ident imagery in the sidebar in 1992 (and the Balloon ident didn't exist back in 1991/92).

The clip certainly looks real.

This breakdown is seemingly from 1994 as the video title suggests and the Balloon ident was introduced the previous year in 1993.

Also, BBC Two didn’t drop ident imagery in the breakdown sidebar in 1992, it has been used as late as 1997 as evidenced by this breakdown from ‘97 with an Optics-themed breakdown slide

I suppose it's safe to assume they dropped the ident imagery at the same time the big corporate refresh came through in 1997, then?

RE: Social Media Pres Gold - Steve in Pudsey - 09-09-2022

The whole sidebar was dropped in that 1997 rebrand.

This was a 1998 breakdown example
