RE: TV Social Media Pres Gold - robertclark125 - 08-09-2023

Something quite different, from the above, but again, forcing changes to programmes, was the day in November 1990, when Mrs Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister. In this video, you'll hear Nicholas Owen at ITV saying they would be staying on the air for the latest updates. This meant dropping "The Time The Place" and "This Morning", and I'm sure programmes were dropped on BBC1. I was watching Keynotes that morning (schools were off for an in service day), and during the ad break midway through Keynotes, came the first announcement. That's not shown here, but the ITV slide is, as it was used for the introduction to the coverage from ITN.

Do we think every region would have taken it? Certainly by 9pm YTV were making their own (with a little glitch)

I suspect that generic 'Channel 3' menu also went out on Tyne Tees / C3NE?

Oddly enough, there's another clip over on PP - even lower-res - of an ITV-branded evening menu on Central (quite similar design to the 1.10pm junction) voiced by Terry Pearson.

(Mods - don't know if it can be uploaded here?)

MOD NOTE - By longstanding tradition, we would ask you to respect the ethos of 'Private Parts' (PP) and not go reuploading clips people have placed there elsewhere.

This is a turn up - BBC Scotland does its own thing in the school summer holidays in (I think) 1992

Complete with BBC Scotland logo rendered in ice cream wafers!

Someone who was in BBC presentation that night told me they had to get the transmitters "turned back on" for BBC 2, but I didn't get any details.

I do know that someone on the morning shift managed to somehow make their way in without hearing the news and was very surprised to find the previous evening's team was still there when they arrived.

Wasn't there also a story of somebody turning up for work and congratulating the team on the scenario they had come up with for the obit rehearsal?

Following the announcement of the Queen's death las year, did the genetic BBC menu (with a grey background) go out on BBC2 as well as BBC1, and also did Channel 4 and Channel 5 have generic menus for the schedule changes following her death?

Here's what happened on BBC1
https://www.dirtyfeed.org/2022/11/that-cher/

I've seen the coverage from that morning and as said in the article they had a newsflash into People Today, then at 10am they went to the news and stayed with it. The odd thing is that the presenters finished that hour saying that they'd be back later and Children's BBC was after the news.... only to be contradicted by Judy Spiers, who was doing the in-vision continuity for the morning.

Presumably it’s all because LWT were in ‘nominated contractor’ mode - would it be their responsibility to liaise with ITN and then relay that back to the rest of the network? I guess with the fluid nature of the schedule it made sense to not ask 15 regions to separately update a menu.

It’s still a fascinating day for presentation, even after all this time. Did we ever get an answer to how BBC Two came on the air that morning?

Oh did BBC Two close down while One stayed on air with World? There was a newsflash on Two with Martyn Lewis around the same time as the One news flash in the film (was a clip of it on YouTube taken from BBC Wales at one point which I do have downloaded somewhere) but I assumed they ended up taking World as well.

RE: TV Social Media Pres Gold - Steve in Pudsey - 10-09-2023

I think that BBC Two newsflash was at closedown? BBC One handed to World and then at some point Martyn Lewis did the "BBC News from London" routine. The question is when and how did BBC Two get switched back on and join that service.
