I do wonder where, if anywhere, that was actually being shown at the time. I know it was a syndicated show, and I don't fully understand how that works over there, but presumably every station affiliated with a network would already have been in a special report (aside of course from the New York ones doing their own coverage).

This is a different/longer clip, they did come back after the break but by 9:12 Regis and Kelly were gone whilst coverage appeared to continue. Regis did say that their show had probably been preempted by the networks.

As the description says, the uploader is sure it did air on some independent stations not affiliated to the big four networks.

If they're independent they presumably only normally have local news provision, so might have extended their morning bulletins, if they had one.

But of course it's worth remembering that at 9am eastern time (which was 2pm here) it wasn't that long since the first news of the incident took place, and it was still being treated as an accident, albeit a big one. As you see Regis mentions it and then moves on to talk about the weather.

It was only at 9:03 that it became the massive event we know it as now.

As you can see in the second video theres a caption 'all live stations switching to WABC TV' which is the ABC station in New York, so that's presumably what they ended up taking

I'm sure some independent stations will have arranged to carry the news service of their choice. On the day it was a bit of a free for all, every one was sharing everyone's pictures and simulcasting each other

Hearing the horror in the studio audience is quite shocking.

Here's a video with Kelly Ripa, who explained that they kept broadcasting until all markets had broken away to their own coverage:

(Around 7:00-8:00, though the whole video is worth a watch)

Then as now, WABC itself produced 'Live', hence their switch to local 'Eyewitness News' coverage. WABC themselves uploaded a new documentary last week about how they covered 9/11.

The BBC Archive social medias always post some golden clips, and this is no exception. It’s the burial of the Blue Peter time capsules in 1971 and 1984, before they were both opened in 2000.

It’s worth noting there’s a clip from a week later in 1971 when the capsule had to be relocated slightly due to the tree that was planted next to it.

I'm still quite amazed at the quality of that footage, almost looks as if it was filmed yesterday, not over 50 years ago!

Unusual for an outside broadcast to be shot on video at that time, no? Then again, they were still at Television Centre.
