Thanks for sharing, trying to solve the mystery of Nick at Nite UK (1994) kept me busy over the Christmas period.

There’s always the UK WB network. Schedules were published, transponder on Astra was announced, but never launched. The weird thing was that the schedules continued to be published for months after it didn’t launch.

I've actually already looked into The Warner Channel, I think that was mentioned on one of Pres Cafe's previous forum incarnations. I'm willing to look at WBTV, as I've only covered it lightly and it needs updating.

As for the published schedules, I would imagine that was due to the channel's launch being aborted at such short notice (with the magazines already been printed), and there was still anticipation for a launch, until WBTV pulled the plug completely that December.

There was also a rift between Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner because of Time Warner Cable's refusal to carry Fox News in the U.S. which didn't particularly help the situation either, but regardless, Sky still wanted to make a deal but it was reported that there were disagreements over the price of the channel and denied that the channel was cancelled.

However, the main reason it didn't launch in the end was because of an internal dispute within Time Warner (now Warner Bros. Discovery) and Turner Broadcasting System on the operation and control of international channels. It got settled as Turner exchanged their distribution business for control of Time Warner's international TV channels.

A North Wales lead story and an ashtray on Tony's desk to boot (clearly didn't feel the need to run his own autocue)

That would have been the start of regular daytime bulletins as well (apart from the main programme, the only other bulletin for many years was after News at One)

On a similar vein, a young Phil Cool (a few years before he hit the big time) doing a one-man Granada Reports parody on the last edition of What's On in July 1979, shown just days before the ITV strike took hold.

Interesting watch all round, actually - asides Margi Clarke (or Margox, as she's known here), there's Mike Riddoch - who took over from Tony on What's On, then returned to Scotland to begin a long career at Radio Clyde.

It was a separate studio in the Dock itself - now a restaurant - but the production office was based in the Traffic Office building.

For years after This Morning decamped to London, there was signage indicating reserved car parking for the programme editors.
