RE: Doctor Who - Kim Wexler’s Ponytail - 23-09-2023

Yay for Australia then, I guess. I'm sure they'll be thrilled they're been thought of first for once!  Big Grin

I can understand dropping the regular series earlier on iplayer, infact I'm surprised they haven't done that before now. Considering they've been building this up for a year though as a huge event, releasing it like that would make it feel like, well...not an event. Surely it would make more sense to air it on BBC One at 8pm with Disney releasing it worldwide simultaneously?

Shock casting announcent (if you've haven't spent more than five minutes following Doctor Who based news in the last 12 months).

A bit odd that this announcement and the Miriam Margolyes one have been an open secret for around a year, yet have only been confirmed this month. I don't think there are any other major concrete rumours that have yet to be confirmed though.

This is either Official Doctor Who mocking us, or they are actually idiots, who have not realised the smaller trailer and teaser released so far, have him on screen - we are not stupid, we knew his face as soon as we saw him.

I think that the trailer and announcement was more for the casual watchers, who probably aren't reading the fan sites, or following the developments. Yes, the teasers and trailers featured the characters. But I feel like that trailer was more for people like my Mum- People who know of Doctor Who, watched it when they were younger, but never really followed it.

As it goes, she is excited. I am also.

I am excited too - just a shame we have had such a long wait - October 2022 was the last time we had proper Doctor Who content and we have to wait until November.  Russell did say he promises no more breaks in series, so it looks like we will be having an 8 episode series and a Christmas special each year as long as he is showrunner (I hope)

RE: Doctor Who - PJamo - 23-09-2023

(Prefaced with an apology to those who like to refer to series by number, but with the reboot in 2005 plus the various regenerations of both showrunner and Doctor I get confuse so.......)

I tend to think of Doctor Who in terms of Companion rather than Doctor as I find it easier; for me Companions tend to mark the beginning and end of stories whereas a Doctor has multiple stories, if that makes sense?

So since 2005 I've enjoyed the Martha Jones and Donna Noble stories with David Tennant's Doctor, and the Amy & Rory Pond and Clara Oswald stories with Matt Smith's Doctor. The rest I've taken a passing interest in but have never felt particularly invested in (so basically the Rose Tyler story or anything involving either Peter Capaldi or Jodie Whittaker).

I don't know what it is but for the first time in a long time this has me excited. Like properly set-the-reminder excited. Possibly it's the reunion of Tennant, Tate and Davies but for the first time in a long time (maybe since The Day Of The Doctor) this trailer makes Doctor Who feel like an 'event'. I can't wait.

We knew about the casting from a previous trailer, but this is the first confirmation that he's playing the Celestial Toymaker.

RE: Doctor Who - Stuart - 24-09-2023

I watched the trailer on the BBC website this morning. The collaboration with Disney seems to have created high production standards, so I look forward to seeing the specials on screen.
