I'd be very wary of reading too much into that. Without getting overly personal about it, the bloke's Twitter feed is, well, rather unbalanced to put it mildly. And it sounds like the finished programme is entirely the copyright of the BBC to do with as it sees fit, so I'm not sure if he would even be able to veto it. We'll find out next month.

If the estate of Mike Smith can veto Top of the Pops repeats perhaps they can? (Or maybe the BBC can't be bothered to have the argument in that case)

I'm not sure if presenters are, or were, governed by a different set of rules, but I know that actors cannot veto the release of, say, old Blake's 7 (or at least, the rules were changed many years ago to prevent them doing so). 

Re the Mike Smith thing, I wonder if his estate informed the BBC that they didn't wish for the programmes to be repeated, and the BBC pulled them out of courtesy, rather than an actual legal right of veto?

But I'm not a 'legal' person so I might be talking absolute codswallop!

I don't think Mike Smith (or his estate) actually had a veto, it was just that the BBC didn't show his episodes to respect his wishes, but I don't think there's anything legally to actually stop them showing the episodes (and BBC4 did the show the 1982 christmas special, which he co-presented, back in 2008).

Certainly several other presenters have said they had no say over the broadcast of their episodes, Mike Read and Simon Bates have both said so, and Andy Crane had no idea BBC4 were even showing his episodes until someone told him on Twitter on the day the first one was shown (not that any of those three have any issues with them being repeated anyway). 

The Year Zero presenters seem to be the exception, presumably there was something different in their contracts. And permission was needed for the UK Gold repeats (where Mike Smith and Noel Edmonds refused)- but again that was 30 years ago under a different set of circumstances.

The bbc is setting up a limited on demand service for sky Ireland. Presumably for streaming dr who as the Disney plus deal does not apply to Ireland.

Apparently official clips of the episode have been moved to private on YouTube. I've just searched there, and whilst there are no clips appearing from the official channel(s), there are many clips out there, including the full episode; I can't verify if there were many/any official clips up a few days ago.

I'm hearing rumours that An Unearthly Child has been colourised. Maybe the clips being removed is because they'll be reuploaded in colour?

I have read some Irish fans are very disappointed at the new Disney+ deal as it didn't cover them - I believe the BBC forgot, that even though BBC One is available in the Republic of Ireland on Sky, Freesat, Virgin Media Ireland, Eir TV and Vodafone TV but not their streaming service BBC iPlayer. 

Hopefully if this new on demand service is launched, it might fix this issue.
