RE: Doctor Who - RhysJR - 23-11-2023

A few nice videos and montages released today.

The best of all: the BBC Four showing of 'An Adventure in Space and Time' had the final shot re-edited, with Ncuti Gatwa taking the place of Matt Smith.

To celebrate the day, BBC Wales have installed a nighttime water feature in Cardiff Bay celebrating the show

And a montage tribute voiced by Paul McGann. A few scenes recoloured in there as well as the first glimpse of the fifteenth Doctor and Ruby together.

On the subject of recolouring, The Daleks looked great in colour for the first time earlier. The rescoring got a lot of discussion online. The editing was a bit to much for me, but it did make the serial run at a much faster and digestable pace, so swings and roundabouts with that.

I'm so pleased they did that. Even though we haven't yet seen Ncuti Gatwa in the role, his first series has already been made, so he is the fifteenth Doctor and the fans know that.

Excellent. I've always blubbed at that scene. It's an important signal of continuation of the drama. Angel

RE: Doctor Who - Transmission - 24-11-2023

I remember at the time it was first shown ten years ago they were talking about how they shot it so Matt Smith could be replaced with the current Doctor during future anniversaries and I thought it was a lovely idea but would probably be forgotten about and too much trouble to bother with, so it was wonderful to see that it was done.

And speaking of 13 ... here's Jodie Whittaker's brilliant (IMO) version of Coldplay classic song "Yellow" . . .

Great song, great video, with a well edited selection of clips of Jodie's time as The 13th Doctor.

Agee, with all of the above, it was a really nice edit. The whole programme is a fantastic tribute to the show and those that made it happen in the early days.

Someone with a better memory of tbe original edit could verify this, but I saw some suggestions that there were a few edits to remove action from An Unearthly Child due to the Coburn tantrum.

Not sure how accurate that is, but the best way to uphold your father's legacy is to have it airbrushed from history...

Friday's CBeebies Bedtime Story comes up as "Episode 875: to be advised" on most schedules, however, if you do a bit of digging on the BBC website, you can find this page, confirming a Doctor Who bedtime story airing on the same date. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0gsx48n

And this raises a lot of questions.
I though it might have something to do with Blue Peter's DW comp, as with the recent authors comp that had a Bedtime Story, they had the same "to be advised" caption, but I did some reading and I don't think it has anything to do with a story. Though they could possibly plug the story on BP.

It has been confirmed that the Fourteenth Doctor will read tonight's CBeebies bedtime story.

There will be 'in vision commentary' on iPlayer of all three specials.

The Radio Times reports that this is the case.

Confirmation that we do indeed see the new Tardis interior this evening - it was certainly floated that the 14th Doctor might not have an interior and that we would have to wait until Christmas, so glad to hear that isn’t the case.

I’m personally glad to see the back of the previous interior - it was a nice concept, but the huge ‘crystals’ blocked pretty much every camera angle you could think of, which meant anything filmed in 13’s Tardis was basically completely static. I believe they also had some quite significant lighting issues with that set and how it showed up on camera.

That's great news, Aaron.

I agree 13's didn't look good on screen. I'm sure it was a lovely concept on paper, and they did try to improve it with additions in later series, but in my mind it never really worked for me.

I always thought 11's second TARDIS was the best, the addition of 12's bookshelves didn't really add anything. However, I liked the idea that it was actually somewhere you would spend time as part of your home rather than just the central control room of a spacecraft. It was also a fully circular set. I'm not sure how they managed the camera angles in that.

One of my favourite episodes is "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" in 2013.  We saw so much more.
