Such a nasty and unnecessary spoiler from one of the papers who whines every weekend during Strictly special. They could have reported the casting without spoiling what happens with the current new companion just by adding a footnote that Mollie Gibson will still feature in series 2.

The internet rumour mill as its worse with this story as expected, with rumours that Mille have been 'sacked' and was 'unprofessional'. Not helped by the Mirror headline saying she was 'dropped'. All rather cruel and all without any evidence.

It would be interesting to see what damage control the BBC and Bad Wolf do. They wouldn't want to admit a lead actor is leaving 16 months before they actually do, but ideally would like to set the record straight that one of their stars is not being sacked or was unprofessional.

Why is it that we get so many leaks when it comes to Who? Even during the notoriously secretive Chibnall era the whole timeless child thing ended up online. I think it’s the fan scrutiny, some of them go too far.

I don’t buy that any of this is anything other than what was planned from the start. It’s exactly what RTD has done before. It’s annoying it’s leaked out.

I wish people wouldn’t try and scupper the show with leaks.

Doctor Who has a lot of haters and moaners online - you only have to look at some YouTube channels who devote their entire content into trashing Doctor Who, they simply want it to fail, to justify their belief.

You will notice most of the haters started around the time Jodie Whittaker was announced as the 13th doctor, and with that the hate started and has only increased with every passing year since 2017.

That’s what I thought (and hoped?) originally, but RTD’s silence following the leaked story is a little awkward if that’s the case. He’s usually quite quick to pick up on and correct/mock any unfair or damaging incorrect reports.

Personally I feel it’s a shame. DW is built on change, of course, but it needs some stability to build from. Too much change too often won’t be good for it - especially as it’s shot so far in advance now. It makes a “new” cast feel old when they haven’t even had a chance to connect with the audience.

I'm not sure why this is a big deal. In the original RTD run there wasn't a steady 'TARDIS team' (hate that term) for more than one full season at a time.

I think it's the timing really leaking before her first series has even aired. If it had been reported at the end of the series it would have felt more appropriate.

Interesting the new actor has been filming in 'public' today despite not being formally announced. Most notable actors who have been filming in public have been announced beforehand in this era, even if their exact role was not disclosed.
