RE: American News Presentation - London Lite - 14-01-2023

WANF have decamped to the newsroom for the first time since the launch of the new set.

Note the use of a plasma behind the meteorologist in use for a backdrop.

KCAL have finally put a clock up on their standard KCAL/KCBS feeds. The CBS News Los Angeles stream already has a bar.

This looks temporary. The DOG position is not in line still with the rest of the graphics. They should be able to get the new CBS O&O package ticker very soon.

Staying with CBS, their streaming network just added Weekender to their Friday portfolio:

Worth noting this isn't a recent addition. It launched around the same time the CBS News streaming network launched a prime time news hour with John Dickerson, which airs Monday-Thursday in the same time slot. Unlike ABC and NBC's 7pm offerings, which are fast-paced digest bulletins, the show is more low-key and focuses on analysis of the day's news. However, unlike its weekday counterpart, its launch was made silently. Additionally, although NewscastStudio tells Catherine Herridge was anchoring "that week", she's actually the show's regular presenter. Herridge joined CBS in 2019 as Senior Investigative Correspondent after defecting Fox.

Additionally, in contrast to CBS News Prime Time, the Weekender has a sort of "week-in-review" format, which mixes hard news and analysis of the day's stories (including repurposing CBS Evening News packages) with look backs of the week's main stories, plus health, consumer and pop culture news (sourced from Mixible, another CBS streaming network, whose content is repurposed from other Paramount ventures, like Entertainment Tonight, MTV News, BET, VH1, AwesomenessTV and CBS-produced syndicated shows Inside Edition and The Drew Barrymore Show, among others) and a weekend planner forecast from The Weather Channel. It is targeted to a more casual audience and designed to serve as a catch-all "start the weekend" broadcast.

Another ABC News talent is leaving the Alphabet: Cecilia Vega is joining the one-and-only 60 Minutes.

TVNewsTalk.net insiders are reporting CBS News Detroit's launch is expected for next week. Some weeks ago, industry source FTVLive/Scott Jones was reporting (in a Patreon members post) that CBS was internally discussing, due to some technical issues, to postpone the launch for next month. Still, the launch expected for next week would be a soft launch, as promotion is well underway and more promotion of the new offering is expected for the months to come.

Anchor Rachelle Graham has also posted on her Instagram that dry runs and full-flown rehearsals are underway. Graham will anchor on weekend evenings with Terell Bailey. Both Graham and Bailey come from Sinclair stations in nearby Flint (WEYI/WSMH) and Macon (WGXA), respectively. It also allows to get a closer look at their newsroom studio, which was designed by FX Design Group.

Other team members include:

Shaina Humphries (from WFXT) and Jeff Skversky (from WPVI) will anchor weekday evenings

Jordan Burrows (from Turner Sports) and Lauren Winfrey (from WCAU) will anchor the weekend morning show, and will do community reporting

Ahmad Bajjey (from WEYI/WSMH) will serve as Next Weather chief meteorologist, with First Forecast holdover Karen Carter and Kylee Miller (from WHNS) rounding up the weather team

Ronnie Duncan, father of CBS News national correspondent Jericka Duncan and accomplished sports broadcaster, joins as Sports Director from WFXT

Amyre Makupson, whose mother was a longtime anchor at WKBD, joins from WGXA and will take a position as Executive Producer Impacting Communities (EPIC), focusing on community-first special projects

Carol Cain, presenter of Michigan Matters, is being retained as public affairs presenter

13 reporters will be based in and around Detroit, including nearby Flint and Lansing, where a State Capitol reporter position will be placed
When it launches, the new operation will carry the new CBS O&O graphics and music. KCAL creative services director Erik Candiani (he masterminded the WJZY Queen City News relaunch) has been assisting WWJ/WKBD in the creative part of the launch, and Beau Weaver has been contracted as the station's voiceover artist.

WKBD - CBS News Detroit which hasnt launched, we just got another pic of the new set and newsroom. It looks very interesting. Its clear they are going to for the factory/warehouse vibe...which fits Detroit's manufacturing heritage. I kinda like it and kinda dont.  Im not a fan of brick on news sets. But it seems the use of it will be above the eye level and not in most of the camera blocks from what I can see. I do like the set is part of the newsroom. But it seems some of the lower part behind the presenters will be slightly "plain".  But its still early on, maybe they havent completed that "green room" space. It looks a bit sparse and the lighting looks a bit "doctors waiting room" to be honest. Maybe it will be softened with some lamps or softer lighting when its not being used. Seems as though they will use that as their soft area for interviews and such. Will be interesting to see how they shoot that when they do interviews.
Unfortunately, management will get cold feet and fail to stick with it. So by next year, when the ratings are still in toilet, because they cant beat WDIV LOCAL 4, they will scrap this set and put in a traditional one. Thinking its the cosmetic things like a set, when its just viewer habits that are hard to change and news viewership its dropping everywhere.

Next Weather chief meteorologist Ahmad Bajjey published this photo of the evening team which allows for another look of the new set, in its evening lighting.

RE: American News Presentation - mouseboy33 - 20-01-2023

Seems like the cameras will be pulled around behind the anchor desk to shoot into that space. But it someone is actually sat down in the "green room" space the camera blocking will be tricky, because it seems like you are just going to get blank expanses of white walls. And the lighting will be tricky as well. i like the big CBS Eye on the right wall, but it seems they could have used a more creative or subtle version. Hmmm... its certainly not a perfect set. But its different than that norm.
