RE: American News Presentation - W. Knight - 16-02-2023

A new weather promo from WPIX Creative was spotted by TVNewsTalk:

Meanwhile, WHIZ in Zanesville, Ohio (NBC/Marquee Broadcasting) had a new set and a new symbol, replacing the one used since 2002 (which coincidentally used the same font as NBC Nightly News' in the mid-80s!):

And as for Norah O’Donnell’s presenting style… SO flowery. “Good evening and thank you for joining us as we begin a new week together.”  Nah. None of that. Just ‘good evening’ will suffice, thanks.

From everything that leaks out to the press, CBS has an awful culture and it's constantly people trying to stab each other in the back and assume power. Every time that happens, they put their own spin (and anchor) on the Evening News.

Norah was about to be pushed out too - and rightly so - but it seems like talent have become wise to the turmoil and many have refused to take the job. So we're stuck with Norah and stupid cosmetic changes.

This week it's changing the headlines to be like the Eye Opener - their only original idea from the last decade.

The intro is not that good ,agreed. If they were going to do an "eyeopener" style then do it like the morning show not like this.  But it still is better than ABC World Tonight's where David Muir endlessly repeats the word "tonight" in the long 2 minute run down, before the newscast starts.  I checked it out a couple weeks ago and the man said  "tonight" 20 times in that  2 minutes.

I still don't understand why they got rid of Jeff Glor. There was NOTHING wrong with him. Or Scott Pelley before him, for that matter. As you say, it seems to be musical anchors chez CBS. The way the Evening News moved from NYC to DC seemingly for no other reason than that's where Norah wanted to live never sat well with me. Of course there were probably other factors at play, too, but the whole saga just stunk from start to finish.

CBS Mornings is back on Studio 57... for one morning only. Technical problems at the Times Square studio meant the show had to move to their former studio at the last minute, but enough on time to allow the CBS News Streaming Network to decamp to their newsroom in Studio 47 for its morning programming.

Over on NBC, the Today show has started rotating the desk after 7.30.

As NewscastStudio points out, it's similar to what they did after the 2013 revamp.

https://www.newscaststudio.com/2023/02/17/today-three-anchor-setup-2023/

They're still in front of the windows before 7.30 and for the 8am news sequence - after which everything comes from other parts of the studio and out on the plaza.

Unfortunately they're still using the unconvincing live feed that's meant to make the window look seamless - which, in my view is the only weak link in an otherwise outstanding studio.

Staying with NBC, their Washington O&O WRC is to receive a new set, per meteorologist Ryan Miller:

Not too sure if anyone had posted this before, but anyway:

Another CBS O&O has adopted the new graphics package: KTVT/CBS Texas, dropping the CBS News DFW name used in streaming.

Similar to the WCBS interlude, the station placed the 11 symbol and eyemark in the black box usually sitting call letters. The first broadcast had a little hiccup though, as the white streaming tag was obstructed by it:

But that was soon fixed, now in the usual blue gradient. There’s also a cute little animation announcing the change:

I wonder why they tell their viewers to update their DVR recordings. Quote: "Because we have a new name"... I've never had to reschedule any of my recordings because of a simple name change in the EPG. Does anybody know the reason?

The best reason  is that for example the program used to be called let's CBS 11 News at Five, if the program name is changed to CBS NEWS TEXAS at FIVE the machine is treating it as a new program, and not going to record it because it's still looking for CBS 11 News at Five.  That could be some older systems and depending on pay tv companies machines as well.
