Interesting to note that they've moved into the old studio space of Meet the Press, which moved out to NBC's DC bureau back in 2021:

Moving to New York, maybe the long-rumoured new set for WPIX is ready sooner than we expected:

From NewscastStudio: CBS' reason to do so, oh and KTXA will undergo a brand change too.
Quote:“For me, it was protecting the star that lives within the two ones. If you do think of an icon that represents this state, whether you’re a Texan or not… that star really stands out for who we are and the pride that we feel every day,” said [Raquel] Amparo.

“The star is certainly the closest that we have to an actual logo across the group,” said Casey Kespohl, SVP of brand Strategy and development for CBS News and Stations. “There’s something besides a number or four letters… It’s a visual icon to represent something.”

“Based on that research and a little bit of gut we know that’s something that resonates,” added Kespohl. “I think it was a no-brainer that while you’re trying to make a position around CBS News Texas, that it remained.”

Sister station KTXA, which brands as TXA 21, is also expected to see changes in the future as the identity of the channel is reviewed and honed.

Here's the special mentioned. Not much about rebrand, sadly (the ending promo still insists on calling it KDKA-TV!):

The thing that bothers me with the new logo is the double CBS eye. I think they could have kept the star within the two ones but without the CBS eye, since that's already there right next to it.

I think the eye is there for things like DOG, when they're out of news mode and without the CBS News branding. See KPIX, from another thread, for instance:

Can't help thinking about what KTXA's can be - the 21 symbol boxed, sitting right next to CBS News Texas? Then it'd be similar to KTVT's, should your idea be true.

But I agree - looks a bit confusing when they're in that.

Will add that KTVT doesn't use an on screen DOG during off news programming. When I was gathering the different CBS O&O's to see before any changes, there are few that don't use them during non news.

Over on cable, Nexstar's NewsNation is adding their sister paper The Hill to the network, and aspires to be 24/7 news from moving entertainment programmes (that notoriously aired during HM's passing) to the weekends.
Quote:Nexstar is bringing together two of its prized properties this spring with the debut of a daily “The Hill” program on NewsNation.

Chairman and CEO Perry Sook revealed that previously discussed series based on the political news outlet, acquired by Nexstar in 2021 for $130 million, will premiere in April and run Monday-Friday.

“Next steps for us, obviously, Elizabeth Vargas is going to the network in April,” Sook said during a Thursday call with investors breaking down Nexstar’s fourth-quarter 2022 earnings results. “And by the end of April we will have a program schedule that will be news 24/5. So we will be a 24-hour news network Monday-Friday by the end of April and that will include the daytime expansion, the addition of ‘The Hill,’ the addition of the ‘Elizabeth Vargas Reports’ show at 6 o’clock Eastern, Monday-Friday. And at that point, obviously, we’re getting higher cost per thousands in news programming than we did in off-network programming.”

Elizabeth Vargas is a good hiring for them. Actually, she can bring some credibility to the channel given her experience covering politics and true crime for ABC. Still, Nexstar needs to shake up the bad reputation of the channel, not from scratch, but taking the stronger points of its content into first place.

Over at NBC, an unexpected situation at the Today Show: Savannah Guthrie is out after testing positive to COVID for the third time (she even left the show on Monday when still on air), and Hoda Kotb has been out for a while due to personal issues. Still, heavy tabloid/clickbait fodder came due to the unexpected situation; as a result, presenters Craig Melvin, Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones (which have been filling in during these few days in the main portion whilst still presenting the Third Hour) had to explain viewers what was happening in an attempt to calm viewers down:

RE: American News Presentation - Brekkie - 01-03-2023

They kind of get stuck between a rock and a hard place in these situations. Really it is nobodies business why either is off, especially Hoda if her absense is not directly related to her own health (and her family deserve their privacy too), but often saying nothing generates speculation which is often worse than the fact (we saw that a couple of years back with Claudia on Strictly when she took a few weeks off due to her daughter having an accident).

I think the difference between the UK and the US (and Aussie) networks is the presenters are generally there full time - certainly five days a week and with seemingly less frequent breaks to the ITV equivalents at least. Therefore their absense is noticed in a way that only the Daily Express would notice when Naga is REPLACED on Breakfast.

RE: American News Presentation - mark - 01-03-2023

It was certainly an unusual morning for the Today show yesterday, after Savannah came off air.

At 7.30 it was just Sheinelle and Al at the desk, joined later (as usual) by Carson Daly.

The desk, unusually, disappeared by the end of the 7am hour, with everyone sitting on stools in the corner with the window instead. Then Willie Geist (who was presumably doing Morning Joe on MSNBC at 30 Rock) was drafted in to co-host the 8am news block with Sheinelle - again on stools.

As unusual as that all was, they did a great job and the content didn't seem to be affected at all.

KCNC in Denver has gone to the CBS look, the CBS 4 name is gone.
