Quote:Nexstar is bringing together two of its prized properties this spring with the debut of a daily “The Hill” program on NewsNation.

Chairman and CEO Perry Sook revealed that previously discussed series based on the political news outlet, acquired by Nexstar in 2021 for $130 million, will premiere in April and run Monday-Friday.

“Next steps for us, obviously, Elizabeth Vargas is going to the network in April,” Sook said during a Thursday call with investors breaking down Nexstar’s fourth-quarter 2022 earnings results. “And by the end of April we will have a program schedule that will be news 24/5. So we will be a 24-hour news network Monday-Friday by the end of April and that will include the daytime expansion, the addition of ‘The Hill,’ the addition of the ‘Elizabeth Vargas Reports’ show at 6 o’clock Eastern, Monday-Friday. And at that point, obviously, we’re getting higher cost per thousands in news programming than we did in off-network programming.”

The show's launch is being touted by NewsNation and sister WPIX's social media platforms; earlier today, WPIX anchor Tamsden Fadal interviewed Vargas on NewsNation's Facebook page:

The Gray new set extravaganza continues... KXII, their CBS/Fox/MyNetworkTV/Ion affiliate in the Sherman-Ada region of Texas and Oklahoma (Texoma), unveiled quietly a new set last night, a cookie-cutter FX Group design that reminds of their WNCN design. For this small market, a rimshot tucked between the Dallas and Oklahoma City DMAs and which easily receives each market's channels, it is a quite decent upgrade. We have mainly chastised these new sets (which certainly look quite dated in contrast to what BDI has done for some other sisters) but for many of these smaller markets it works.

The News 12 Networks (owned by Altice USA) have been working behind the scenes on new sets for each of its hyperlocal networks targeting the outer parts of New York City and surrounding areas in New Jersey and Connecticut. These were designed by James Yates Production Design, with LED displays provided by AV Design Services and Barco. The first to launch the new sets is the Westchester network, based out of Woodbury, where it shares with the Long Island network; an exact set for them has been already built and will launch later this month.

The new set is part of a long-term investment by Altice to rebrand the network, including a massive facility rebuild which has also led to these new sets; a temporary set has been on-air since last August with many elements of the new set designs already present.

KABC 7 - Los Angeles maintains a comfy office at the airport for its pilots and reporter of Air7HD. They usually are in the air in a moments notice to cover any number of stories day and night. Its why we usually get live coverage of the numerous police pursuits that happen in Southern California. The LA Basin is a massive area to cover and a news chopper coverage is essential to newsgathering there.

There, we are finally being given a sneak peek of the new standardized graphics. Like the Meredith standardized package (also designed by Quinn), stations would be able to customize the color palette used for its rendition, but eventually sticking to a design similar to the current Atlanta News First graphics. Stations from certain affiliates can also be able to commission customized variants, including CBS affiliates (like this example from a certain CBS 3, where the design take cues from the network's current brand system) and even Telemundo stations (with customized opens taking cues from Look K, the former Telemundo Local Media package from NBC Arthouse, like an example showcasing KXNV Reno, sister to KOLO). Additionally, lifestyle shows from Gray's legacy stations, as well as Raycom and Quincy holdovers, would switch to the Meredith lifestyle package (like this example showcasing Midwest Access, from former Quincy station KTTC). Stations will be able to retain their existing music packages.

After launching on Local News Live, the new Matt Quinn Gray graphics have started to roll-out to their affiliates. First to get them: CBS border affiliate WCAX in Burlington/Plattsburgh/Montreal, and what an upgrade... With the change, they dropped Momentum News (from Non-Stop Music/WCPM) and switched to Stephen Arnold Music's This is the Place; they still use their local voice-over talent (unidentified).

Not only WJZ. CBS Texas/KTVT also switched today to these. WJZ might switch to "CBS News Baltimore" branding by the end of this week or by next week. Only five stations left to switch to the new look (WBBM, WBZ, KOVR, WCCO and KYW, which already has the hybrid brand approach but still retains the previous Linear Drift graphics).

And now, it's WCCO (the station which brought to life Next Weather), still without new news graphics:

Insiders at a Reddit local TV subforum are being told that the launch will happen as soon as next Monday. The biggest draw to the rebrand will be the retirement of the Eyewitness News brand. The CBS News Philadelphia brand will be used in its place, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for them.

In the meantime, their still-new set has switched to the new brand in their main desk.
And they're now using a weird mix of CBS News Philadelphia, plus the CBS 3 brands, on the previous O&O mandate:
https://youtu.be/akHahQ1tgNE

They have changed again the open... well, sort of. They just dropped Brian Lee as voiceover artist... in favor of longtime anchor Ukee Washington.

A well deserved decision by KYW management. Ukee Washington survived the dramatic Peter Dunn/David Friend sexism and misogyny scandal that hit KYW and CBS Television Stations overall in 2021, leading to Dunn and Friend's removal and the merger of the O&O structure into CBS News. Upon the uncovering of the scandal, Washington, evening anchor since 2015, received an outpouring of support from KYW's most dedicated viewers, as well as station colleagues, industry admirers and other professional organizations, including African American advocacy groups.

In Fort Myers, Florida the locally owned WBBH-TV is being sold to Hearst, which is probably the best company to get sold to , they will also operate the ABC station WZVN.

An expected move given the fall-out of Hurricane Ian, which indeed made a dent into local stations' finances (worth noting WINK, which suffered the most, is still locally owned and is quickly recovering from the damages of it). Both WBBH and WZVN are in safe hands. Hearst is indeed the most traditional of the TV corporate biggies: they have successfully ventured into local streaming and have a robust line-up of strong nationally syndicated programming (like Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien, Jeff Rossen's consumer reports and the former Litton shows), but its local newscasts are the most traditional of any corporate group, with a strong focus on political and social issues (alongside the gamut of spot news) and support of local initiatives. This mindset (which has lead to many of its owned stations being #1 in their respective markets) should fit WBBH and WZVN, and the Waterman family made the best decision. This would also lead Hearst to strengthen its presence in Florida (it already operates WESH/WKCF in Orlando and WPBF in West Palm Beach).

Still, these beautifully made graphics from Hothaus/Matt Quinn and their Stephen Arnold Music themes (The Rock on WBBH, 360 on WZVN) will be replaced by the Hearst graphics and Strive music (WCVB example attached), which are, however, a worthy replacement:

As for WINK, I would rule out a sale too, but hoping it isn't get sold out to Sinclair (bad decision if they do so). Gray Television is IMHO a great fit for WINK if they sell: they have a robust net of small market affiliates (Sarasota, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Panama City and West Palm Beach) in which they would be great to join. I wouldn't rule out Nexstar too, they have in WFLA one of their best local assets, but their recent questionable moves (the decision to cut live streaming and overemphasizing its NewsNation network, for example) would hamper WINK's credibility in the long term.

Now to NBC's Today Show, which won a Peabody Institutional Award for its long history, even if its current presenter line-up is quite poor:

RE: American News Presentation - London Lite - 06-04-2023

Regarding WINK, while they're back in the studio with a new set, it all still looks temporary and they still don't have the breadth of shots they had before Ian wrecked their set.
