RE: American News Presentation - sky303 - 20-10-2023

CBS Mornings being at Times Square felt more like Paramount trying to find a reason to justify still having that space, since TRL is long gone and MTV is mostly over. They couldn't even use the real windows because of GMA being right across the street there.

Back to local TV... WTAJ in Altoona (CBS/Nexstar) has a new set and adopted a new graphics package - the same one used by KOIN and more recently WJET/WFXP (https://pres.cafe/showthread.php?tid=209&pid=42509#pid42509 ).

Their article on it even has a portion dedicated to their old sets over the years.

I dont think they needed to justify a reason, unlike ABC/Disney that built out those studios in Time Square but its headquarters and the rest of its operation is located elsewhere in Manhattan, VIACOMCBS's longtime HQ has already located at 1 Astor Plaza for years which is connect to 1515 Broadway. Thats why MTV has its main studios located there. So it wasnt a case of planting a flag in Times Square but more a case of utilizing what you already have that was basically a high profile studio space laying fallow in a premium location. Im sure they would prefer to consolidate their studios like NBC and ABC but unfortunately thats not possible in Midtown let alone Times Square.

Notice the main entrance to the VIACOMCBS HQ to the left.

It serves its purpose but it’s a shame they’ve moved away from the minimalist style they adopted at one point in 2010 (I think). The initial HD-only graphics were lovely

And this is a basically a Disney vanity location for the ABC network. All that for one programme always seemed like a waste. When they started using it for the extended GMA programmes....fine. But now they are getting an entire new HQ. Just consolidate everything. They rarely use the exterior facing windows. And the windows they did use always had a funny weird filter or film over them that made it look fake anyway. What a waste from when the studio was launched and it truly embraced Time Square. Its kinda eehh now.
I thought originally though Disney owned the building - but it turns out they just rent studio area and call it Times Square Studios. I believed it was separate building in its own.

Other tenants include China Daily and Nasdaq.

They've put some editions of the newscast online , It's also airing on KCOP and KTTV in Los Angeles, not simulcasting though.

Newsnation updated their graphics to a more flat design and less gradients

During primetime programming the space where the ticker is instead of being empty like it used to be, they keep up the "NEWS FOR ALL OF AMERICA" thing.

What a complete disappointment NewsNation turned out to be. Was supposed to be news channel with no bias and turned out to be just the opposite and is basically like FNC with no viewers. What a waste.

RE: American News Presentation - mark - 31-10-2023

The UK morning opt-out for the Today show is back on NBC News Now - but they haven't adjusted for the fact that our clocks have gone back a week before the US, so it's currently on between 6 and 9.

I'm not complaining - I actually quite enjoyed Pop Start and the other lighter features with my morning coffee instead of the 7am news block.
