RE: American News Presentation - London Lite - 15-12-2023

NBC News Now was taken off Sky Glass/Stream on the same day when it was pulled from the satellite service, yet strange that it wasn't removed from NOW for days.

RE: American News Presentation - mouseboy33 - 16-12-2023

Its very odd that corporate siblings have pulled the stream. You'd think that at least it would be secured and have a place. Similar to SkyNews on Peacock and such. The only logical thing I can think is that likely there are rights issues and some lawyer and their client got their backs because some content was being shared globally. Maybe it had been embargoed content that went out on Today and should have only gone out in the US. Who knows? Many film studios embargo interviews and such.... So maybe the stream on Virgin Media's days are numbered. Maybe NBC got a cease and desist that only named the Sky streams.

Because commercially it makes no sense to remove the stream, so there must be some legal reason why its been pulled. So rather than fight it or spend time editing out stuff they just pulled it. Could be a temporary measure int he long run. Especially if they future aspirations of a global news operation.

Whatever the case...WEIRD.

There was a slightly different UK feed that showed the Today show Tuesday to Saturday from 7-10am UK time. It was originally on Sky, Now and Samsung but the Samsung feed switched back to the main one (midway through an edition of Today!) a while ago.
Were there local ads or just break filler seen on YT with headlines?

Mostly the break filler seen on YouTube, with a few ads here and there.

WBNG in Binghamton (CBS) has flipped to GrayOne.

In a group-wide change, Gray is dropping network branding on their local newscasts, to avoid confusion with the national ones. This is an example from WVVA Bluefield (NBC), who previously switched to GrayOne:

And one from WMTV Madison, who dropped the peacock and the old music, but kept their existing graphics:

Bahakel Communications' WAKA Montgomery (CBS) has rebranded, opting for blue and reverting to the 90s 8 numeral. Not sure if the Alabama News Network nane with WNCF (ABC) is kept.

I mean, people in the States have managed to understand the concept of network and affiliate for decades... now they suddenly can't be trusted anymore to make the distinction?

On second thought: Gray is pushing its national content to the affiliates. So lines are probably becoming a bit blurred.

For decades upon decades. There was actually very little network branding alongside the local channel number. So for years in the past and pretty much even today..... People will say Channel 2 or Channel 7. Ive never heard anyone ever say NBC 4 or or ABC 7. Its just not a thing. (Visually the O&O stations have for years used the network logo, but you'd rarely hear CBS 2. They used the Call sign and say Channel 2, 4, 7 or whatever.) The networks have pushed that Network/Ch# branding (NBC 4, CBS 2, ABC) for the last 20years or so. And it simply doesnt work. It seems by osmosis or something, people just know that one channel is affiliated with whatever network. So if you say "Oh I watched this new show on NBC last night". Most people will pretty much know you are talking about say WNBC 4 - NBC New York or something.

Here is an example of a network affiliate for most its existence never saying CBS despite the fact there is a CBS logo used. Then in the 00s they had to drop saying CHANNEL and stop saying the CALL LETTERS from the title and start using CBS 2 and the CITY. Boring.

Here is an example of NBC Affiliate in Birmingham that didnt use the network branding until the 00s

So the Gray dropping the network logo..... Is really a who cares thing.

Here is a transtion from NBC network programming to the local news in Montgomery Alabama. Notice the lack of NBC branding when it smoothly switches back the affiliate.

All tv stations are required by law to identify their call sign and city of origin every hour. Notice how WSFA incorporates this segment smoothly into the news open. Today usually they just pop the call sign on the screen in small letters on many stations if its not part of the news broadcast branding.

Positive news for CBS Morning. Whilst the ratings have surpassed GMA or Today they have beaten GMA in the demo a couple of time. Thats something at least. Still preferred the harder news version. But maybe they stumbled upon a team and format that is working somewhat. Tackling GMA and Today is like climbing Everest, but a respectable 3rd is commendable after decades upon decades of false starts and restarts.

I think moving closer to Sunday Morning in terms of branding and content was a good move for CBS Mornings. For me, it strikes the right balance between the traditional pace of weekday morning shows and the more thoughtful, in-depth Sunday Morning format.

I personally still prefer the warmth, 'family' feel and faster pace of the Today show, but I'd take CBS Mornings over GMA any day.
