WGN Morning News is probably best local morning news in the US. Its funny and is also serious. They often take the mick out of each other and the news business. Here is a gem from a the other day. (also take note of how quick the person on the soundboard is.) Mind you it seems like hours of goofiness, but they cover hard news and can easily transition to lighter stuff. They've been together for ages and its apparently #1 in Chicago beating all the Network morning shows. WGN is an independent station and is not affiliate with any network. I don't watch the CBS Evening News too regularly, but I noticed they've switched to a refreshingly simple open. Rather than a drawn-out, two-minute long montage teasing every single story, they instead tease the top story, roll the open, and then get to the top story right away. The logo during the cold open is also quite small and minimal.

Just like how Danish broadcasters DR and TV2 do. They have been doing it this way on prime time bulletins for years.

I guess that makes sense to an extent since most people who tune into those newscasts plan on watching the entire bulletin and not just a summary.

Unfortunately the opening theme sounds badly chopped up.

This really cool video. Especially for those that feel that American local tv affiliates are nothing operations that basically just read from wire reports or only report on press conferences. Assignment Desk editors are key to most newsroom and are the central intake point, often directly from the public when news is happening. In most American and Canadian newsrooms the Assignment desks are either right in the middle or somehow in an elevate section at the front of the newsroom. And also you get a very good look at the incredible newsroom at WRC NBC 4 DC in this video. (Fancy)

KPRC's new set is on the air, which seems to be an in-house job that aspires to be much more than a TV news set:

And the removable newsdesk in the mornings:

The giant block of screen looks peculiar, otherwise looks a bit uninspiring with the silver borders around the other screens...

Back to CBS, Sinclair's KBAK in Bakersfield has a new set:

The round newsdesks looked eerily similar to some of the outgoing Sinclair newsrooms', like that of KTVL Medford.

Okay, so it's not strictly a news programme (or one at all!), but it's been a while since I've seen The Daily Show, and I've got to say it's got a lot of the polish and shine back from it's heyday - especially after small sets etc immediately post-Covid:

With Jon Stewart back once a week on Mondays, they are now uploading a lot more without geographic restrictions to YouTube.

Looking great for this US Presidential election year.

Definitely feels like a return to the ‘classic’ Stewart era with both the set and graphics, in contrast to the warmer, city scape look when studio production eventually resumed.

Think the show benefited of sorts during Covid by adopting tight YouTube-style editing for Noah’s monologues, compared to the as-live feel of Colbert’s remote shows (for example)

RE: American News Presentation - mark - 18-02-2024

The '24/7' streams from the ABC O&Os - featuring the live local newscasts with repeats and other local filler content in between - are now on YouTube in 720p.

Good news as it makes it much easier to watch newscasts from the likes of WABC on a proper TV in the UK.
