Well this is interesting I found on the Sky guide online, text says one thing and the picture says something else.

Why, who is showing it? And I presume it is the original flavour Frost / Grossman kind then.

ADDENDUM:

Just looking on Wiki. Can I allude to something?

Probably that's just an automated system picking out the first picture it could find rather than anything to do with what series Challenge are showing (the fact it's 30 minutes tells you it can't be the Keith Lemon version anyway).

Just been the weirdest edit on Strike it Luck- the contestant starts the game, striking the first screen (a Pierre Cardin suit), moves on to the next screen but in the edit she’s moved two screens along rather than one (even though the second screen shows “decanter and glasses” on it so not sure why they cut it out), and the prize is a pot of caviar. Michael even mentions to her that she’s won a Pierre Cardin suit, decanter and glasses and a pot of caviar, so I wonder why they cut out her striking the screen for the decanter and glasses- it’s a very odd edit making her look like she moved two screens along rather than one…

You'd be doing a great service to the forum if you can post a clip and/or find the episode on YouTube so that fellow readers can see the cut/what was cut.

I've seen a lot of weird edits on Challenge. Probably the worst one I've seen was on a All Star Family Fortunes episode where after a round ended, they (very poorly) cut straight to Vernon saying "congrats you've won this round" or something like that. I have no clue why this was cut but if I had to guess, they probably cut it because there was a competition video originally.

There are many strange edits, I remember I saw one once where a contestant got a question right on Strike it Lucky, Barrymore started moving and the next thing we knew was fade to black and the other contestant had struck the sccreen as they say. I can only presume Barrymore (who to be fair did do a lot of ad-hoc comedy and impressions on that show at seemingly random) launched into Jake The Peg or something en-route.

The other edit I remember was when they had the brown set on SiL (which was only Series 6 IIRC) and they chopped out Barrymore using an old lady as a ventriloquist's dummy, so it looked like he picked her up just to see how heavy she was (or wasn't).

Then of course there are all the Virgin Media edits to Family Fortunes, Bullseye and no doubt others that they're still using best part of 15 years later...

Some edits around end of parts as well, as they used to chop all that "end of Part One" out but they seem to have undone a lot of that.
Plain as the nose on your face when the edit was in the cue dot period as well Big Grin

The Crystal Maze also suffered from dodgy edits. For example, Richard O'Brien's pieces to camera during games (you'd see the on screen clock jump by a few seconds), I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure the odd game would get taken out of episodes and his end monologues would often be chopped mid sentence. I remember in the Prize Time era of Challenge (TV) Andy Crane making a reference to Richard being cut off half way through saying something.

No games were removed. The main edit which were there on Challenge TV from the beginning were the end monologues - in fact the first time I'd seen these in years was when the first 3 series were added to Britbox (I don't think they've added the other 3, sadly).

Unfortunately the Ed Tudor-Pole episodes were not shown for a while and when they were eventually re-acquired during the VMTV era they butchered them - forcing an additional break in abruptly and cutting the zone moves right down. I think the Christmas specials suffered similarly. There are a few games from these episodes where the in game clock jumps.

I've always been very surprised that Challenge [or some other broadcaster] doesn't attempt to try and find the original recordings for most of these older game shows [FF, Millionaire, to name a few] that got butchered by previous owners and re-edited them for modern uses.

I remember how we had to put up with the dodgy Millionaire edits (Series 5 onwards) where Virgin Media hacked away at so much of the contestant chatter that episodes had to be merged to make them hour-long broadcasts, which broke up the start and end of actual episodes. Which meant when we got the Series 1-4 broadcasts, it was a welcome difference where the only edits were to the phone number and the Millionaire break sting logo, due primarily to Challenge knowing there was no reason to cut out everything randomly.

I get we probably will never see half of Bob Monkhouse hosting FF due to most of the episodes being lost, but would be great if all the Max Bygraves and Les Dennis stuff was re-edited. One notable edit from the Max Bygraves era is during the infamous Turkey episode where, after Bob gives the answer "Disraeli" for the "name a famous Irishman" question, the audience laughs for a bit, then Max should say "I tell you what, we get idiots as well on this programme", but for some reason that sentence is cut and it just jumps to Bob laughing at Max's comment. It's hardly that offensive but someone decided [somehow] it wasn't appropriate to include.

It'd also give them a chance to re-air many of the random gaffes from answers given by contestants which are lost to the ages [such as the one where a contestant gave an answer of "brothel" for "a place where you wouldn't expect to meet a nun": the most you see is a short burst of laughter before the titles roll at the start of Family Misfortunes if you find a clip of it online on YouTube]
