Million Pound Drop did the same thing. Cash and security guards on show.

I went to recordings of both Million Pound Drop and £100k Drop

Million Pound Drop was like passing through airport security, all audience members searched (and patted down!), phones and the like not allowed and had to be given to security and collected again after the recording

£100k Drop much more relaxed (although MediaCity has their own security team so you have to pass through a security check for any recording), looking at the clip below they didn't even bother with 'security guards' just quite a funny prop moment of Davina handing the winners a briefcase to carry their cash away!

I don't think it was ever stated that the first series of Millionaire was live. It may have looked like it could have been live, but it wasn't.

IIRC they kept the playing area/hot seat in place all throughout the first series bar maybe Fastest Finger first, and then it kept appearing and disappearing in later runs on the wide shots.

The computer & Hot Seat would dissappear for Fastest Finger First until the 300th live show in 2002.

There's no way anyone could believe it to be live with the way the chairs and screens (and money in the early series) kept vanishing and reappearing between camera shots!

Not everyone pays so close attention to what is going on in the background.

That's all very well coming from someone who wasn't born in 1998 when series one was shown but I remember ITV did everything to make people believe it was live other than actually say it was live.

"I know you can't see your television right now" when taking to someone on the phone.

Chris Tarrent always used to name check the day of the week or even the exact date of broadcast.

IIRC, we never saw any clips of future episodes before they were broadcast.

Millionaire was perhaps always best pre recorded!

RE: Challenge TV - Juicy Joe - 21-02-2024

It would be good if Challenge showed some Millionaire Hot Seat shows from Down Under. They scheduled them in the afternoon 7-8 years ago for a while but I'm not sure how they did, probably would have performed better in the evenings. Would be a great addition to the regular Millionaire shows. Screening both is probably is overkill.

Millionaire Hot Seat had aired earlier in 2015 at 8pm before being moved to late night/early morning slots prior to the afternoon run you describe:
