I remember a few years back when BBC Radio Devon Ditched Judi Spiers from her Daytime show and replaced her with Fitz there was so much uproar then, but again Judi would of been on a high wage and im sure David came in im guessing on a much lower wage, what doesnt make sense to me is that BBC Radio Devon got in a brand new presenter for the Breakfast show (John Acres) to replace the legendary Gordon Sparks who sadly passed away with cancer,
If the BBC Management knew the changes which were up comming, why didnt they hold off with bringing in any new presenters, and then give the opertunity for one of the current presenters to be given the opertunity? i mean John Acres is good, but doesnt make sense with the current cuts on BBC Local Radio

Disappointing that the half arsed way this is being handled means that Andrew hasn't been able to announce his apparent departure himself - that's a criticism of the process, not of Kat.

That said I'm sure he'll get a better send off than Liz Green whose last show didn't even go out on Radio Leeds.

Kat is a safe pair of hands, I'm pleased that she's got the gig.

Having now seen the list of who's going from Radio Bristol, it does indeed seem to be arguably most/all of the most perennially popular presenters.

For example... longstanding station stalwart Steve "Yabbo" Yabsley. Although which particular slot he occupies has moved around the schedules a fair bit over the years, his shtick has always been high on fun/humorous/banter-y interaction - such as asking listeners to message the show with their attempts at poems on a given topical subject.

There's a hardcore of long-time heavy contributors to his show, as you often hear the same familiar listeners' names (or at least their social media usernames etc) being mentioned whenever Yabbo reads out the banter that's been sent in. I used to be one of them, until my current circumstances (work pattern etc) versus which slots he now presents brought my listenership of his show - and therefore my interaction with it - to an end during the last couple of years.

And - you've guessed it - he's one of the presenters that the local press have confirmed will be leaving soon.

I suspect that most/all of these kind of colourful characters at each BBC Local Radio station, who are of course massively valued by the loyal listeners, will now be going.

That tends to be inevitable with this kind of process (in any sector), that the packages on offer are more attractive to people towards the end of their career, as an opportunity for early or semi retirement.

Obviously not everyone leaving has chosen to do so, but the voluntary severance does skew things.
