French TV - matthieu1221 - 13-11-2022

Starting a new French TV thread (the old one seems to have been carted off and limited to Midterm coverage).

TF1 Pro's Twitter account seems to have forgotten to Tweet about it, but LCI was 2nd in the news channel podium on Nov 11 (a public holiday in France). While it often is 2nd on Weekends, albeit it being a public holiday, it was the first time in a while that it was second on a weekday. 2.9% for BFMTV, 2.7% for LCI, 1.8% for CNEWS.

David Pujadas peaked at around 900k viewers on Thursday at his 6pm/8pm slot. Pretty sure that was the level that Face a l'Info got when Zemmour was still on.

Brunet and Rochebin are also doing very very well at the 10pm/12am slot, almost systematically beating BFMTV.

The rest of the programs barring Les Matins LCI is quite often second or first.

EDIT: seems like they tweeted on the Groupe TF1 account rather than the usual TF1 Pro account

Separately, BFMTV is on strike today. Employees had been on strike since a couple of days but managers of production crews managed to ensure that the channel continued to produce live news programming.

Today, yesterday's Week-end Direct was replayed until 8:30am until which Damien Gourlet and Perrine Storme presented a voice-over only news bulletin which was repeated until BFM Politique which was broadcast live as usual. Since then, a cocktail of Ligne Rouge documentaries have filled airtime.

Franceinfo spent some of the 2pm bulletin today promoting the upcoming mascots for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which led to this fail.

RE: French TV - matthieu1221 - 14-11-2022

LCI doing well once again this weekend, benefiting from the fact that CNEWS's viewerbase drops during weekends and holidays.

Tying for 2nd all-week long though is quite impressive.

Surprisingly, despite only voice-off news bulletins, BFM Politique at 1pm and lots of Ligne Rouge documentaries being replayed, BFMTV remained in the 1st place of the news channels. Though not entirely unsurprising given how it took a while for viewers to switch from itele even after the strike had gone on there back in 2016 for a considerable amount of time.

And as a reminder, tonight at 8:30pm local time, BFMTV is airing a docu-fiction in which they portray France in 2050 either having successfully curbed greenhouse emissions... or not, followed by an interview with the Prime Minister. Here is a behind the scenes video they released.

LCI was in front of CNEWS yesterday, a rare feat (last week's lead was on a public holiday) on a weekday. No doubt helped by the situation in Poland from the evening onwards.

BFMTV's 4.30am pre-matinale went out today for the first time this week after industrial action among other issues.

The strike was planned to last until Wednesday and following a meeting today, has been suspended. On Wednesday part of BFM Story was a replay, Aurelie Casse's 90 Minutes did not air and was replaced by a voice-off edition of various replays of earlier interviews in the day and Calvi3D was repeated in the late evening replacing 22hMax.

RE: French TV - News Discussion - Medianext.MX - 12-12-2022

On last night's C Médiatique, France 5's media analysis show, Anne-Sophie Lapix announced that her contract at the France 2 20h news is under review. When she was tapped to replace David Pujadas, she initially stated she didn't want to stay on the anchor desk beyond this year; however, France 2's 20h ratings have improved during her tenure, reaching a peak of almost 30% during the pandemic, but has gotten into more controversy and criticism from the opposition of pro-government bias, but going in the defense of Lapix for its aggressive interviewing style. To make things worse, Alexandre Kara, FTV's newly-appointed news director, is reportedly in odds with her, with Léa Salamé and Caroline Roux being in the front run to replace her from next season, and plans to make the show even more closer to TF1.

Still, she confirmed the enormous "cathedral" studio built in 2017 to unify all of France 2's news and current affairs programming into the same space is being demolished. Although announced as "revolutionary" at the time, its use has been downplayed and other shows which attempted to get into the same space (cue Télématin) found difficulties to shoot in the space whilst retaining their own formats. Additionally, the enormous size of the set causes journalists to get lost visually in it. A smaller set will be built during next summer, designed to be "much closer".

I'd like Léa Salamé to have a go at it. Would make for some good competition for TF1 imo.

At the moment, the 13H and 20H bulletins have never been stronger. This household prefers to watch Julian Bugier and Anne-Sophie Lapix over the TF1 bulletin which still has a massive JPP void that Marie-Sophie Lacarrau hasn't been able to replicate, not helped that Dominique Lagrou-Sempère left in 2021. The two ways between them had none of the charm that JPP and Dominique had previously during the SOS Villages segments.

Personally I'd like to see Julian move to 20H with a new female presenter on the lunchtime bulletin, maybe thinking out of the box by hiring Karine Baste rather than Léa or Caroline.

God, JPP was brilliant. And this is coming from someone who barely speaks a word of French! I always found it funny how he refused to use the autocue. His excuse was ‘I prefer to improvise’.

I’d have thought TF1 would snap Anne-Sophie up if France 2 does indeed let her go? Probably to LCI, or even (this is very much out of left field) as a co-host for Gilles Bouleau on Le 20H?
