I think that's  the original newsroom studio that launched with the One O'clock News.

Managed to grab a couple of screenshots from the 'Newsday Revolution' documentary showing what I think is this studio.

When the Daytime Summaries launched in December 1986, they came from the 'studio' in the corner of the newsroom that is illustrated above - a simple two-camera set-up, with the set also acting as the production area for the summaries. The set does have similarities to N2's One O'Clock News set, but, as far as I'm aware, they never regularly came from the same set - though N2's gallery was used to output programming from the newsroom set.

In October 1988, the Summaries moved with the Nine O'Clock News and Weekend News to the new larger newsroom set that was located where Studio N3 had been (whether this was located near the original newsroom set is unclear). It must have been around that time that the Summaries moved away from the One O'Clock News graphic style to their own stone/beige and white look. This look was again replaced in late-1990 (presumably in October, when regional news was added to the summaries) with a blue look that incorporated the corporate logo.

Wow, thanks all! I honestly thought the very first newsroom set was the 9/weekend/summaries set. And I'd always thought the background was Chromakey and from the One o clock set.

Doing as I do from time to time and checking out old BBC News related content from circa 2000 and came across this clip featuring Stephen Cole and the headline sequence from the start to the first story being read 'proper' being just 45 seconds. Given how much it takes these days to get to the main story the day. It is just amazing at how expedient they were back in the day.

Admin edit: there are other clips available (that haven't been websnatched) that demonstrate BBC World's relatively short opening headlines. This clip on the Rewind site, for example, in the hours following the bomb at BBC TV Centre.

That is what I through too, as they had similar desk designs, but thanks to someone who worked at BBC Television Centre back then, I was told what the person who posted above has already said - the daytime news summaries had their own dedicated studio in the newsroom, based in the spur block of BBC Television Centre - a bit expensive for what was only really 7 news summaries during the day on BBC One and BBC Two. 

In 1988, more space was created in the newsroom to develop a much larger newsroom set - the 9pm News was going to get a revamp, and someone in the BBC liked the newsroom based studio, and thought it would work well for the 9pm News, and also cost saving to use for all weekend news/bank holiday news and news summaries. 

The old daytime news summary studio was eventually dismantled once the larger newsroom set was launched on Halloween night of 1988
