I'm not sure about John Tusa, but I've definitely seen an image of Ed Stourton with Anna Ford presenting the Six.

John Tusa and Ed shared the role at the One O Clock News when it went to virtual. An odd pairing it has to be said. There was certainly no ageism at this juncture!

I'm sure there's a clip somewhere of Ed doing a late bulletin on a Christmas or New Year bank holiday. I think about 1997.

Another rare find - Moira Stuart doing the 9 on a Saturday night in November 1989. AFAIK, it was rare for anyone other than Buerk/Sissons/Lewis/Witchell to do the late bulletin after the 1988 relaunch.

I remember that bulletin. It was an historical event. I suspect the usual presenters were on their way to Berlin, so BIG MOIRA was brought in to present from London.

Interestingly, Buerk was presenting when a few major plane crashes happened as he hosted the 9 on the day of Lockerbie in 1988, Kegworth in 1989 and Concorde in 2000.

...and the November 12 2001 crash!

Although rather than Michael being a crash curse, I think more to do with the fact for many years it was either him or Peter Sissons on the main evening news - consistency that's hard to believe nowadays!

Although as mentioned in Sissons’s autobiography, he was on holiday when both Diana and the Queen Mother died, so he always seemed to miss the major royal stories.

Yes, of course the November 2001 crash (2 months after 9/11) was the only time he appeared on the News 24 set. 

Also, I agree with you it being Michael or Peter on the 9/10 because as mentioned it was very rare, that someone else presenting at that time, whereas today it's a free for all on the bulletins.

Always found it odd how there was never any on screen interaction between the News reader and sports presenter on the weekend bulletins in the 90s. Not even a "thank you Peter" and a "thank you Rob". Looked very odd the way they just looked at each other.

It seems to me back then the 1993 to 1999 era was much colder in it's presentation, far more formal and official BBC style - leaving the more relaxed nature of news to ITN - remember this is the era of John Birt at the BBC - wanting a more back to basics news presentation style from its newsreaders.
