I’m thinking in his entire career Michael Buerk rarely presented alongside someone else

The Nine/Ten was obviously single headed, in the old days when he did the One that was single headed, and I’m not sure he was did the double headed Six much

He did do the Six when it was double headed but as you say not very much. Also the Nine when that was double headed in the mid 80s.

He also did a stint on Breakfast in 2003 with Natasha Kapkinsky IIRC.

He did some presenting on Breakfast. After a bit of searching I found this video on YouTube

Here's an example of Michael Buerk in double headed presentation from 1988:

On this day in 1990, the Six O'Clock News with Anna Ford and Peter Sissons*.

* According to Genome, it was meant to be Andrew Harvey, so I'm guessing Sissons got brought in because of Thatcher's resignation as Peter did Question Time (twice) that night.

This is quite a rare find - a top of the hour sequence from BBC World from the night Diana died. It features a special version of the theme music as an introduction to the special bulletin with Nik Gowing:

RE: BBC News Pres: Nostalgia - JamesWorldNews - 14-12-2022

Thanks for sharing that, Rob. I was adamant (to mostly myself) that World played out a special programme and theme on the night (early morning) before Martyn Lewis took over.

Maxine was originally presenting from the World overnight set, before Nik Gowing came in, and started from the same set (newsroom backdrop).

I was sure at some point they moved to the (modified) flag backdrop, and lo and behold, you’ve found it!

By the way, I don’t recall that particular version of the World music ever being used again, apart from the ongoing Diana coverage of the times.

Other versions of the “sombre” music were slightly different, IIRC.

RE: BBC News Pres: Nostalgia - DTV - 19-12-2022

I don't know if this era is old enough to be considered nostalgia worthy yet, but there was a series of 6 hour videos that somebody put together around 2012 showing BBC World News throughout the day - the first half hour of each stranded programmes and the first BBC World News, World Business Report and Sport Today of each presenting shift. Sadly seem to have been deleted from YouTube now, but I was wondering if anybody had saved the original address (for archiving) or managed to download a copy.

They were very useful, not just for looking at the presentation throughout the day, but also for looking at how the running order shifts through the day and how different strands handled what was the most important stories. (I think there is a tendency for presentation fans to just edit down to titles, stings, etc., but how the formats of programmes have changed over time is also record worthy and it's a shame that there are whole eras that have basically vanished on that front).

Wow, that ident into the news really is jarring.

RE: BBC News Pres: Nostalgia - Yorksman - 26-12-2022

A definite case of tonal whiplash from the ident to the news bulletin.
