The English language dubs of a lot of European produced cartoons are often American (or Canadian) voices anyway (even for shows that never get sold to North America), so it just seems like it's seen as the default way to make English content.

Might be more of a culture thing, the whole dubbing thing in the UK.

Other countries though? Well, I think this is from Finland with a bit of work in Google Translate:

And the UK dubs are often quite poor as well. Never entirely seen the point in why they do it, especially when I don't think it's ever been done for cartoons aimed at older viewers (I guess a slight exception was when Hanna Barbera made a series of Superted, and they got Derek Griffiths and Jon Pertwee back for the UK rather than keep the replacement US voices, which you can understand). I can only imagine they don't want really young kids picking up US accents and words while they're developing language skills... though the fact plenty of preschool shows go undubbed negates that.

Thinking back, there was quite a controversy about introducing Sesame Street in the UK back in the day with the IBA getting involved.

I only discovered today that Bob the Builder got dubbed in the US, with Greg Proops (of Whose Line etc) as the lead character for some seasons.

With kids shows it's about having voices that would be familar to the kids watching, so in their local accents. Generally nowadays with kids shows it's not the case of a US or French version being dubbed but them being commissioned across multiple countries in the first place with the intention of having their own voice cast. That means they can be counted as a local production rather than an import too and any relevant tax advantages can be applied for.

Best to put it here: After becoming That's Christmas in the holidays then briefly That's 80s (when the actual channel is still stuck with Best Xmas Music), That's 70s is becoming That's TV 2 on Sky, Freeview and Freesat - What a tongue twister.

Other That's TV channels are moving upwards in the EPG too next year.

That's Christmas and Best Xmas Music have both been broadcasting That's 80s (with different songs) since the 26th. I'm sure there's logic somewhere.

Interesting to see that on 09/01/24 ITV/STV are also closing down some SD channels.

RE: Sky Platform News - bkman1990 - 09-01-2024

The SD version of Sky Sports Racing was shut down on Sky since yesterday.

Sky Sports Racing is now HD only. It's EPG number is still available at 415 for subscribers who have HD enabled Sky boxes.

I wonder if Ad Smart has been added to Sky Stream as the local council had an advert on Sky Replay this afternoon for their leisure services.

RE: Sky Platform News - Neil Jones - 19-01-2024

Ad Smart works on Virgin as well apparently so if it works there its plausible it can be adapted to Sky Stream as well.
