RE: EastEnders - James2001 - 24-01-2024

The cast might not have known, they might just have spliced the relevent ending onto the end of the dress rehearsal tape. As has been said, we know they filmed several endings- they showed some as part of the BBC3 aftershow, and I think some others got posted up on their website as well.

Similar to that, I remember with the "Who killed Tom King" story in Emmerdale, they filmed several scenes of different people pushing him out the window, and they showed them on Calendar earlier in the evening of the reveal episode, which made us think the reveal was going to be shown as a flashback. But then in the actual episode, all we got was Carl admitting to Matthew and Jimmy that he did it, there was no flashback (and Carl doing it alone wasn't one of the clips Calendar showed either), so filming all the alternate endings seemed bizarre when the reveal wasn't done as a flashback anyway.

And when it comes to the 2015 live episodes (or at least partly live for all but the last one), they had an #EELive hashtag on the live parts, and whenever I've seen them show a clip of those episodes, and when they repeated one of the during the covid break in 2020 and, is up on the iPlayer (https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b053j7ws/eastenders-iconic-episodes-who-killed-lucy-beale-30th-anniversary  ), said hashtag has either been there, or the picture's been zoomed in to cut it off, which suggests it's the only version that exists- I would have assumed they'd have made hashtag-less versions for repeats and international sales, but it seems not.

RE: EastEnders - Neil Jones - 24-01-2024

I didn't say it had or hadn't been seen before, what I said was it was announced they'd made it at the time in 2010 as a back up. Which they didn't need to use, so we never saw it.

They always claim to film about 2000 endings for some major cliffhanger... and of course they'll only use one of them, which may just be a bit of hyperbole as to what they've actually filmed.

RE: EastEnders - James2001 - 24-01-2024

And besides, they have to film future episodes based on the ending that's going to be used anyway, it's not like they can film multiple different versions of several weeks worth of episodes to help keep the secret.

Though I guess when, for example, it's a trial, and there's going to be cast and crew filming those scenes who won't be involved in the day to day production of the soap, filming multiple endings helps keep it secret from them.

RE: EastEnders - James2001 - 24-01-2024

Though when it comes to the Who Killed Archie reveal, Stacey ran off for several weeks in the following episode, and the fact she killed Archie was never discussed during that time, and it could easily have been framed to Lacey and the rest of the cast that her running away was down to Bradley's death, not her confession, so it's still reasonable to assume the cast might not have known beforehand.

RE: EastEnders - James2001 - 23-03-2024

According to DS, the iPlayer will have more than 2,000 episodes available by Christmas, which will be well over a quarter of the show's entire run:

Though apart from the addition of 2012 episodes to the 2008-2011 ones already on there, it doesn't say what those episodes will be. A selection of episodes from across the show's run, something similar to the 2008-2012 episodes from another point in the show's run? Will be interesting to see.

And at least the episodes on there won't be plagued by the continuing technical issues of the Drama repeats...

RE: EastEnders - IanJRedman - 23-03-2024

I took it to mean it will be every episode from 2008 onwards? The rights for 1985-2007 are apparently tied up with Drama at the moment.

RE: EastEnders - RhysJR - 03-04-2024

There will be an hour long episode on the Wednesday 17th April, with there then being noe episode the following day.
