RE: International Presentation - W. Knight - 29-01-2023

American premium movie network Epix was now renamed to MGM+, to better reflect the sole ownership of the namesake studio. Originally a joint venture between MGM, Paramount and Lionsgate, the network is now positioned as a sister service to their mother company Amazon's streaming offerings. The sister channels are also renamed as well: Epix 2 to MGM+ Hits, Epix Hits to MGM+ Marquee, and Epix Drive-In to MGM+ Drive-In.

This is the sizzle reel of the rebrand, as well as the programme junction (the latter of which was a reskin of the Epix pres):

Staying in the US, PBS' WDSE/WRPT duo affiliate in Duluth, Minnesota are reunited as PBS North, a combined name used between 2008-12:

Moving over to South Korea, as part of their 50th Anniversary celebration (as a public broadcaster), KBS is changing their corporate image:
Quote:As part of the celebration, KBS will unveil its new Corporate Identity design in March, 2023, the first-ever change of its brand image since the foundation 50 years ago. Other anniversary events include;
● to host the 2023 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Seoul General Meeting and Associated Meetings
● to produce special programming on the History of KBS : Public Broadcasting over 50 Years
● to select and review 50 people who have contributed to KBS
But that's basically what we know about so far.

RE: International Presentation - JAS84 - 29-01-2023

Wouldn't it have made more sense to give Epix 2 the MGM+ Marquee name, instead of changing one channel from Hits and another one to Hits?

The Channel U rebrand mentioned a few posts ago isn't a completely new logo. 5, 8 and U all lost holding shapes, and U's was a sphere, which the U was on the left of. All they've done is straightened and flattened it.

Norwegian PSB NRK have started to roll-out its new logo and brand system previewed last year. The radio stations and the corporate identity are the first to get the new designs, with the TV services coming later this year. NRK is also working on a sonic logo from NRK Radio imaging producer Vidar Brennodden.

The new look was designed by Oslo-based Anti, who collaborated with NRK's internal designers for the new look. Additionally, Dutch foundry Typotheque created for the broadcaster a custom font, NRK Sans, which will replace the existing LFT Etica typeface (and its custom serif version) from TypeTogether.

NRK has also made public its brand guidelines, which already has the corporate and radio elements updated:

Most brands from the TV, radio and digital branches are gaining new logos with a corporate identifier which Mediacorp calls the "Mplifier", which will also be used in new graphics.

The rebrand will affect also all five Mediacorp TV channels, English-speaking Channel 5, Mandarin-speaking Channels 8 and U, Malay-speaking Suria and Tamil-speaking Vasantham.

The exceptions to this rebrand are CNA and CNA938, whose brands are being retained as they are.
And now the new brands are on air. Here, turns out the "Mplifier" is just a stylized ^  from their corporate symbol Big Grin

And it's not like nothing's changed on CNA: Their Mediacorp DOG was updated to the new circled M symbol.

Staying in Southeast Asia, GMA in the Philippines launched Pinoy Hits channel in mid-January, mainly consisting of classic TV shows:

I was expecting such, but their overall branding and presentation is still the same. Even Channel 5's CNA News Tonight is still very much in line with the CNA look and feel. Here's the C5 clock and a signpost menu:

Worth noting too that the flatter version of the Mediacorp logo, introduced with the gradient version back in 2015, is now the primary version used on the corporate side, but the gradient version will remain in use.

What I love more than brand identity: guidelines being made public.

RE: International Presentation - W. Knight - 03-02-2023

From Deadline: Israel's new cabinet wanted to cut the cord off Kan TV, one of their public broadcasters, but now the proposal is seemingly thawed following public opposition.
Quote:The closure of Israeli public broadcaster Kan by Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government has been delayed indefinitely, according to a spokesman for the Communications Minister.

The Israeli TV community will be breathing a cautious sigh of relief, for now, after the representative for Shlomo Karhi told local press that the plan has been delayed “until further notice” in order for the government to focus on passing legal reform.

A public broadcasting blueprint was initially set to be delivered by Karhi next week. He had sparked outrage when he told the country’s non-public-service Channel 12 TV station “there is no place for public broadcasting in Israel” last month, while arguing that the TV market should be opened up fully to competition.
... sounds a bit familiar, huh? Dodgy

RE: International Presentation - p2004 - 04-02-2023

Israeli public broadcasting has been the topic of this kind of stuff for ages. In 2017 the government shut down IBA to replace it with KAN, where the plan was initially to get rid of their news department. That fell through, and it's been debated for ages since then. Even now, I believe the Netanyahu government aims to get rid of KAN News (though this does threaten KAN's membership of the European Broadcasting Union).

RE: International Presentation - thegeek - 04-02-2023

on the subject of NRK, their teletext service is celebrating its 40th birthday (though it appears that nobody's entirely sure how it's still running.)

RE: International Presentation - JAS84 - 04-02-2023

Don't forget digital TV can still do analogue style teletext. They just gradually closed or were switched over to more modern red button services in the UK. I'm not surprised the old technology is still used in some places. Tekst-TV has only actually run two years longer than Ceefax did, it launched nine years after Ceefax which closed 11 years ago. They were late adopters of teletext, so the same is probably true of it's successor technologies.
