I'm not surprised the old technology is still used in some places. Tekst-TV has only actually run two years longer than Ceefax did, it launched nine years after Ceefax which closed 11 years ago. They were late adopters of teletext, so the same is probably true of it's successor technologies.

A lot of European channels still have analogue-style teletext services, particularly German-speaking countries. For example, this is ZDF's teletext:

Isn’t ARD’s WST teletext service still going in Germany? If not, I think it lasted well into the 2010s (same may be true of ZDF?).

RTE’s Aertel (the WST version) was still going last I checked, now only available to Sky customers with old boxes still connected via SCART and to certain Virgin Media customers with legacy tech.

RE: International Presentation - i.h - 07-02-2023

even QVC germany still has a teletext service. it's impressive how dedicated the German broadcasters are to it.

Pretty much all German channels still run an old style teletext service, because they didn't have MHEG based RedButton services like the UK when they switched to digital.

And the new replacement HbbTV isnt't realy gaining any traction either. It's slow, the receiver needs to be connected to the internet, you constantly get an intrusive pop-up when changing channels ...

QVC Germany even have teletext on their 4K channels.

Definitely still working 2 weeks ago, I checked after reading somewhere about it. Was quite impressed with it.

When ARD and ZDF launched their Digital Satellite offerings in 1997, they offered a MHEG-based Red Button service, which offered a selection of content from their respective websites and teletext, plus an expanded program guide. Due to the low use of the service in recent years, it was deactivated with the launch of HbbTV, although Videotext (ARD-Text/ZDFtext), either in analog or HbbTV mode, is still available on the DSAT services.

Speaking of the success of German teletext, still a massive 25 million people use Teletext services on their TVs and other screens (online, mobile apps...), with 18 million people using the ARD offerings (produced by RBB in Potsdam), according to 2018 data.

Even ARD offers a unique way to insert social media (specifically Twitter) user-generated content, they call this instrument "Teletwitter". They use it in special events (including the ESC). They also have a Karaoke page which is activated in Schlager and folk music shows.

Those weren't MHEG based, but rather used "OpenTV" and from 2004 to 2007ish MHP.

Teletext is also still very strong in Italy, Austria and Switzerland. SRF even kept a dedicated editorial team for Teletext and just recently vowed to continue offering the service:

An update on the RNZ-TVNZ merger: it has been scrapped by the Labour majority due to the upcoming general election.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/02/08/tvnz-rnz-merger-fully-scrapped-amid-election-year-refocus/

To other news now: Fox Sports Argentina has launched a completely new look and programming schedule coinciding with the completion of the takeover by Spanish group Mediapro (ordered after the Disney-21st Century Fox merger). The channel's new programming is targeted specifically to Argentinian audiences, edging its well-known and longer-established rival TyC Sports.

Each channel has also refocused its target audiences: the main Fox Sports channel will focus on football and rugby, but will also air Formula 1 and ATP tennis on its schedule; Fox Sports 2 will air American and contact sports, and Fox Sports 3 has been refocused to target a younger audience, airing e-sports and pop culture-related programming, including airing content from Mediapro's sister network ubeat.

Programming has taken on a looser style, with a focus on original long-form content and talk shows, with no news bulletins; the channel will also rehash content from sister Spanish network Gol Play. All content comes from a new studio located at Non Stop TV in Buenos Aires, which has been designed to cater all the channel's shows. Mediapro has also plans for Megacasts during special events, with standard play-by-play on Fox Sports, an alternate telecast featuring the network's hosts on Fox Sports 2, and an e-sports experience on Fox Sports 3.

This is the second phase on the rebranding process of the Fox Sports networks in Argentina. The first phase involved a flatter version of the Fox Sports logo (similar to what they used in the Netherlands before the Disney takeover), with a temporary schedule consisting of repeats of existing content, but adding more live content as the months came by.

The third phase of the rebranding would see each channel drop its numeral in favour of their identifying colour (Fox Sports, Fox Sports Verde, Fox Sports Rosa), according to local newspaper Página/12; later on, the Fox Sports name would be dropped in favour of a new brand identity by Mediapro.
