RE: International Presentation - W. Knight - 21-03-2023

Moving on to music channels, Mezzo and Mezzo Live in France celebrated their 25th birthday with a new look, replacing the serifs with a new MEZZ() wordmark:

Meanwhile, Deluxe Music in Germany launched 4 more channels, Deluxe Dance by Kontor, Deluxe Flashback, Deluxe Rock and Deluxe Rap last month. This is what they (or, their DOGs) look like:

Around Europe, Denmark commercial-state broadcaster TV 2 is to adopt a new brand identity at the end of March, replacing their long-used symbol, simplified over the years, since their launch:

In their own words:
Quote:Our new appearance must make it clearer to users that they are in contact with TV 2's content, regardless of where they meet us. Today, Danes meet TV 2 across our streaming service, channels, apps, news site and podcasts. Therefore, we need a strong and unifying identity, which is created for both current and future generations of digital media users, says managing director at TV 2 Anne Engdal Stig Christensen.

TV 2 delivers credible news journalism and quality Danish content, and we are here to inform and engage the Danes in the community. It remains our most important task, even when we are moving from traditional TV to streaming in these years. Therefore, it is also visually important to emphasize that you can expect the same from TV 2, regardless of where you meet us. The red color has followed us for several years, and with it we carry on our history and DNA, says Anne Engdal Stig Christensen.

Alongside this new rollout is a new youth-oriented channel Echo, merging the original Echo and Zulu into a single service:

My immediate reaction was: 'oh, hello, Microsoft home screen' seeing those tiles

NICE! Looks like it will be very slick. Can't wait to see what it looks like in motion.

I wonder what the new font will be? I do love a good font.

They do have a branding guideline site available, that includes the font used in their current image:
https://tv2marketing.dk/design/tv-2-brand/

I'd suggest keeping an eye on it once the new identity is out Big Grin

I'm sorry, not liking this new look. Although it indeed shows a very Danish design mentality to it, DR has a much better corporate look, and this pales in contrast. DR's look is also more in line with its European counterparts.

Anyway, the new look (and the merger of Echo and Zulu) launches on Monday. Here's how it will be seen in motion...

RE: International Presentation - Kunst - 25-03-2023

It looks like a generic look with slapped graphics on a live action scene, so far.
I mean, also the current. look is like that

But then, not surprised too much, unlike Sweden and Norway, Denmark is more akin to Germany and Netherlands in that idents on commercial operations in particular, aren't used that much.

I understand. Aside from the redesign, 'putting main corporate symbol in a circle' is a really tired trend IMO, especially when they're relatively unrecognizable in taking the deconstructed route (ex Mediacorp)...

The regions are also gonna be a sore thumb sticking out too - just look at TV2 Østjylland, relaunched weeks before the rebrand was announced:

Powerpoint presentation at its worst.

Still, hope to see them bringing something new to the table Wink

In Ukraine, state-owned information channel DOM (house) TV changed its name to DIM (home). Originally broadcast in Russian specifically for the Russian-occupied areas, the name change is, in their own words:
Quote:[D]ue to the fact that today the "Home" channel appeals primarily to Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes, became internally displaced persons or went abroad. We broadcast content in the Ukrainian language, which allows our viewers not to lose touch with home, with the Ukrainian linguistic and cultural space, wherever they are.
Russian programming were pulled in favour of Ukrainian shows since September last year - perhaps the name change is to highlight that. Not much has changed pres-wise though: It's just a slight name change in promos.

RE: International Presentation - Kunst - 25-03-2023

Actually all the Scandinavian channels seem to have gone that route, or at least many.

From minimalistic but good creative looks, to just poor too minimalistic ones.

See also TV4 in Sweden (kind of like the Swedish take on ITV/C4): so much potential wasted on some live action with boxed logos and graphics, so poor!
And idents aren't even used on many Scandinavian channels, not like they used to be: mostly they're menus with often no voice on it either on many channels.

It's getting the European way of doing things, rather than the British one, sadly
