RE: International Presentation - RtH - 05-04-2023

The Dutch RTL channels will get a new logo in May this year to get them in line with the "RTL United" brand. Not only the logos are changed, all other graphics are changed too. The font used for all graphics is a bespoke font, called RTL United, which will be used for the numbers in the logos and onscreen text.

The RTL United project started in 2021 when RTL Deutschland adapted this new brand. RTL Hungary followed in 2022. RTL Netherlands is the next one.

Please note, as this has not yet been officially announced, the exact launch date is uncertain.

Wow. Certainly looks like a radical departure from the looks previously used by RTL Nederland. Hope they get this right - I really like how it currently looks. Do we know what will be happening with RTL Nieuws? Their current look has remained pretty much unchanged for 9 years.

It's completely different from what we are used to. At this moment, I've no idea what will happen to RTL Nieuws. The "RTL" part of that brand was so recognizable, that they placed it on all logos and used it as corporate logo for "RTL Nederland". I think RTL will follow the German version, just "Nieuws" behind the blocks with a blue colour scheme. But after 9 years, a completely new look for RTL Nieuws, is also justified.

I've only seen two logos and an end board of a promo. The execution has to be spot on, because it's very difficult to copy television graphics from one region to another.

I agree that a new look for RTL Nieuws is probably needed - though saying that, the current look has certainly aged very well (IMO anyway). This is what it looks like, for reference:

I think if anyone can make the graphics work, it's RTL Nederland - they generally have really good graphic design.

Good scoop RtH! The promo end board looks different to what it is used in Germany and Hungary, but looks promising from what it is seen. If they do something like they manage to did in Hungary, it would be a great execution. As Kojak told, RTL Nederland has good graphics.

A good decision not to rename RTL 4 as simply RTL (might be due to Dutch TV particularities), as well as taking each channel's existing colors into the new blocks. The question is: will RTL 7 and 8 retain purple and pink? Will RTL Nieuws and RTL Z take the RTL Aktuell route?

Quick break on this: after a three-year-plus delay, WNET/Thirteen has finally switched to a new logo.

There is a very good reason for that. Dutch TV goes like this: NPO 1, NPO 2, NPO 3, RTL 4, RTL 5, SBS 6, RTL7. Renaming RTL4 to just 'RTL' would thus make no sense. It would be like Channel 5 here being renamed UPN.

RE: International Presentation - JAS84 - 06-04-2023

No, it wouldn't. Our main channels are BBC One, ITV1, BBC Two, Channel 4, Channel 5. Two ones, no three! With ITV already using an out of place name, Channel 5 doing the same wouldn't matter.

RE: International Presentation - orange - 06-04-2023

It’ll be very interesting to see what they do with this - it’s weird to see the channel number take a backseat in the actual logos. I’ll miss the RTL Nederland identity a lot - I really love the logo and the news graphics, although that aside, their channel identities have been really quite tacky for the last few years.

Yes came here to say this. I'm interested by the comments about RTL Netherlands generally having nice graphics because the current channel logos themselves look bloody awful.

I'd imagine they'd take RTL Hungary's route and had the numerals spelt out, ie RTL Vier, RTL Vijf et al, but I was wrong. Big Grin

On a related note, I quite like the 2005 RT(4) symbol - shame they're just used as a plaster for the preceding package.
