RE: International Presentation - W. Knight - 17-04-2023

Staying with RTL, Neox, the Spanish TV channel co-owned with Atresmedia, just had a rebrand, arranging their symbol horizontally:

Meanwhile, TNT in Spain was replaced by WarnerTV a few days ago:

Moving on, AMC's Mexican food channel, elGourmet, had a smaller rebrand last week, swapping the yellow for dark olive green:

And ETC in the Philippines was rebranded to SolarFlix last year, with heavier focus on movies:

Actually, Elgourmet (which is the correct writing style for the channel's name) is based out of Argentina; it was created back in 2000 by a former subsidiary of national broadcaster América TV, Pramer (short for Producciones América), whose founder, Armenian-Argentinian media mogul Eduardo Eurnekian, had sold two years before to TCI/Liberty Media; by 2006, it had been integrated within Liberty Global, and by 2013, it had joined the Chellomedia network as part of a reorganisation after MGM Holdings sold its Latin American channels (the local MGM Channel, a local version of MGM HD and lifestyle-oriented Casa Club TV) to Liberty, before selling them to AMC.

The previous rebrand, made in 2015, aligned Elgourmet with its Spanish counterpart Canal Cocina, including some of its original and imported programming into Elgourmet's schedule (mostly composed of original content produced mostly in Argentina and Mexico). A similar move was also done with Casa Club TV, which was renamed MásChic and was aligned with another Spanish counterpart, Canal Decasa.

The new look, according to AMC executives, is part of the decision to return the channel to its glory years, by turning back to a schedule mostly composed of originals (some Canal Cocina content will remain in the interim), even if the channel didn't suffer from a dramatic channel drift or ratings decline. Here's a bigger sample of the new look:

Yes, RTL Germany is the most successful arm, but does that really have any relevance to Dutch viewers? I don't think so.
Then they probably won't care. RTL Nederland has had a shifting view of their identity throughout its lifetime. I mean, they once had the 5-note RTL jingle in their newscasts, then they stopped using them. Though in my opinion, they really need to bring it back, after Belgium stopped using it.

Bringing back the 5-note RTL jingle was proposed in 2014 when RTL Nieuws got their new graphics, but RTL wanted something completely different. RTL in The Netherlands is known for a very distinctive

As far as I know, nothing official has been published by RTL yet, but all programmes scheduled to air on the 1st of May or later, are using the new RTL logo in the (new style) end credits.

The RTL United brand will only be used by the RTL branches that are fully owned by RTL Group. I think RTL United was created to make the "original" RTL brand stand out more than all other RTL channels that are still using the name, like RTL TVi in Belgium. It clarifies the RTL Group brand internationally. For the local viewers in The Netherlands, it's in my opinion a step back.

Renaming Videoland to RTL+ can create a strong European streaming service brand. It could be interesting when acquiring broadcasting rights. Videoland is already cooperating with MTV, as some shows are available on the platform. But the name Videoland is indeed a very strong Dutch brand. It would be a shame if they're going to ditch it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Speaking of RTL, and I cannot believe I'm the first to break it here: RTL Luxembourg has changed!

Keep in mind, the entire site is in Luxembourgish, so be prepared to hit the translate symbol.

It seems that with Hungary and Luxembourg having differing behaviors than the normal German counterpart, we can safely predict that the Netherlands will follow the same roadpath. Basic building blocks, but different approach.

RE: International Presentation - orange - 27-04-2023

It works a lot better with the Dutch network than I thought! Although - the logos feel like an absolute cop out. I think there always needs to be a good balance and harmony between the company logo and the channel number, and that’s not happening here. The RTL logo is quite a big unit and having a petite little number next to it doesn’t work - it gets suffocated.

This actually looks nice. Very similar to Hungary in style, especially with the colour picking.

I think the problem is that the while the logos are now all the same, there's nothing to distinguish the numbered channels on outside advertising, all using the same white background and style. The numbers that represent the channels could practically just be invisible and all under just the "RTL" master brand, even though RTL is a network of channels in the Netherlands rather than just one.

I think that's just the dilemma of branding your channels as numerals, as opposed to what countries like Hungary do by spelling the logos out. Then again, you basically break the whole "NPO 1-3, RTL 4-5, SBS 6" system they have as neat as it is.

RE: International Presentation - Jayesyn - 27-04-2023

The colour picking reminds me a lot of ITV, although a lot less slick. Whilst I appreciate the uniformity of this rebrand, the previous (or current, I guess) RTL Netherlands logo is just so much more modern. I am mostly curious to see what they will do with RTL Nieuws. Their entire branding is based around the four sides of the 'frame' that makes up the logo and also the set design.

You can read more about it here: https://www.smorgasbordstudio.com/work/rtl-nieuws-rebrand/

Apologies if this has already been posted, I haven't caught up with this entire thread yet.
