The new look coincides with the launch of Canal+ Box Office, a mainstream contemporary film channel, and the repurposing of Canal+ Cinéma as... Canal+ Cinéma(s), retaining its general film remit, but now increasingly focused on French and critically acclaimed films.

Elements of the new look have been already teased during the rentrée launch conference (themed under the Summer Party concept, held on June 26) and the main channel's summer promos:

Got a feeling that design will not go down well for epileptic viewers.

Laurent Ruquier is leaving France 2, reportedly negotiating with TF1.

France 2 is now airing proper summer ad break bumpers, reusing those from last summer and adding some new ones in the same vein.

Gulli is preparing a new look for September. (Source: Gulli's Twitter account)

Like the 1995 look. Seems that Canal+ and photosensitive issues go hand in hand like feet to the floor.

Mercato news from the content side of TV...

Laurence Boccolini is out from TLMVPSP after two seasons. Although her decision was mostly personal (according to an interview she did with Ozap/Puremédias), the show has been losing steam in the ratings after Nagui's departure, with its audience becoming increasingly older (64,2 years in average, according to a paywalled Le Parisien article) and in the demo being under 10% in share, consistently beaten by TF1's Les 12 Coups de Midi. The show has been renewed by France Télévisions, and it is now finding a host to replace her. Boccolini is staying with the PSB too.

TPMP has lost three high-profile chroniqueurs: Matthieu Delormeau, Béatrice Rosen and Benjamin Castaldi. With the show increasingly on strongly hot water due to its controversial content, Cyril Hanouna hired Évelyne Thomas (the host of tabloid talk show C'est mon choix) and Alex Goude (former host of the French version of Got Talent on M6, as well as weatherman and football analyst, plus host of the Lumni schools shows for the French Government and FTV during the pandemic) as new chroniqueurs to fill these spaces.

He also tapped Ségolène Royal to join the team; initially she rejected and had to clear things up after her name appeared on Hanouna's announcement of the new chroniqueurs, but eventually she turned around and announced her eventual hiring. On an interview with Télé Loisirs magazine, H2O (Hanouna's production company) director Lionel Stan said Royal's role won't be a simple chroniqueur, but she will intervene as a "political expert". Spin-offs Le 6 à 7 and TPMP People are out; the new pre-Hanouna slot will be known as PAF, with Guillaume Genton, going for a much bigger focus on media, whilst the Saturday evening slot will become a new political show which will debut later in the season.

I really thought when Laurence replaced Nagui on TLMVPSP that it wouldn't work, but with a few tweaks in the early days of her tenure, the show still works, even if it now skews older. (My mother loves that show)

Bruno Guillon would be my choice as her replacement, but that would lead to a double bill of game shows with him on as he also presents Chacun son tour before TLMVPSP. However Cyril Feraud presents back to back game shows on France 3, so it's not a major issue.

Comedian Jarry gets the TLMVPSP gig according to Ozap.

Confirmed on the rentrée press conference. Some other changes coming to the entertainment schedule:

- Special evening on ocean rescue, “Urgence Océans”, hosted by Léa Salamé and Nagui on France 2
- Laurent Ruquier still on negotiation to stay with France 2 (given the recent news), but his Les Enfants de la Télé show is staying, and will have a new host (not confirmed) if Ruquier leaves
- Sophie Davant stays after all on FTV: she moves to France 3 for a new animal-themed programme, Animaux et compagnie, plus returning as Téléthon presenter
- Alex Visorek and Philippe Caverivière to get a Sunday afternoon talker, En bande organisée
- C à vous chroniqueur Bertrand Chameroy to produce and star on comedy specials and shows
- Prodiges to gain a pop-oriented version, aptly named Prodiges Pop
- Faustine Bollaert to host consumer-oriented and how-to programme Ça vaut le coup
- Laurence Boccolini to host a new game show, Le Grand concours des Français (not related to TF1’s Le Grand concours, or yes?), and a new adventure show is airing on France 2, L'anneau
- Okoo to have a new show with Théo Curin, T'es au top, plus its Wednesday presented slot on LCN 14 (France 4); Délphine Ernotte Cunci to increase three time investments to produce shows for both Okoo and Slash
- Samedi d'en rire to gain a new format
- Le jeu des 1000 euros, France Inter's long-running quiz, is joining France 3 on weekend afternoons, with Nicolas Stoufflet (the radio host) joined by Carinne Teyssandier as co-host, and with a mainly similar format

The idea is to increase FTV’s reliance on its france.tv streamer, with France 2 planning to be the main channel (and serving as core brand showcase), with France 3 increasingly taking on a regional flavour and an older-skewing, campestral and patrimonial-focused programming remit; France 4 focusing on Okoo, Culturebox and special event coverage, and France 5 targeting a more discerning, high-end audience.

RE: French TV - Presentation Discussion - London Lite - 14-07-2023

The Ruquier depature I don't think is that surprising considering how his tv work has declined in recent years, with the loss of his Saturday late night show starting the rot.

It reminds me a bit of how Patrick Sébastien was treated after decades of service to FTV, gradually reduce the commissions, try out new formats with younger presenters and then that's it.
