It's been removed now but that is what you got if no location was set.

It was there a few weeks ago anyway.

I’m quite surprised that they’ve bothered to update the famous red screen with a more appropriate message, even more so than the fact that they appear to still be playing out the feed!

I assume that the England feed being removed from the various options on apps and the website are a precursor to closing the feed entirely, probably as a bit of a tidy-up around the time that Nightlight ends.

Here is version 8 of the bbc1 nightlight red slate
Used from 1930 to when announcer says goodnight, and all day at weekends

Thus version first appeared on Monday 16 October.

Notice the changes to the red slate noticed seem to be happening once every 6 weeks on a Monday.

Notice the changes to the red slate noticed seem to be happening once every 6 weeks on a Monday.

I noticed last night that these red notices are also NOT carried on screen now during

BBC news simulcast overnight
BBC breakfast (weekends)
1928-1930 Monday-Friday
and during Strictly Come Dancing

We knew if the first 3, but I think I now realise why it's not on screen during Strictly.

T&C's are displayed at the bottom of the screen during this programme. I was under the impression that these T&C's must be visible by law, and as such, if the red slate was on screen during this programme, they would be invisible to done viewers  The slate appears only when continuity us on duty, so it does not appear until 1000 on Saturdays or from repeat of MOTD on Sundays, as continuity is not in for introducing Breakfast at the weekend. Because they can't turn it off for parts of programmes, it has to. R off screen for Strictly so that everyone sees the T&C's.

I wonder can someone confirm if that is correct. Thanks

Also the blog has been updated at the bottom of this page, dated 13 October.

Quote:Demand for our help scheme resources that launched in March this year has been much lower than expected and we believe the number of homes still using SD-only satellite equipment is now far lower than anticipated.
Interesting, perhaps they could have done this a few years earlier after all.

Interesting that they refer to a “channel closed” message appearing for a short time beyond the deadline.

It sounds like they have, indeed, come to agreements with Sky and Freesat to leave the channels on the EPG for a short extra time to finally hammer things home to SD viewers before the feeds are switched off entirely.

RE: BBC One Nightlight - Jimbo2022 - 22-10-2023

I wonder if they need to keep the feeds running until 15 match or end if march to fullfil contract with Astra? But the broadcasts if the channels removed on 8 January

Btw it is again this evening NOT carrying the red notice during Strictly.

I’m sure Astra would be happy for them to pay for empty space or hand back the transponder early. I do suspect that the contract was for a year, so I think they will probably play out a caption until early March when they will look to finally take the channels down.

But yes, broadcasts will end on the 8th of January (but that’s purely a BBC decision, not a contractual date it seems).

Transmission on 10.803H started on 8 March 2023. 22.422H went off on 14 March but 10.803H was in service from 8 March  We will see what happens
