Listings on the Sky EPG similarly run out 6am on Monday.

Most of the channels have a message stating a box upgrade is required to continue watching with a number to call.

The end of an era, really. We only got the full regional SD service on DSat in January 2002.

It served its purpose well.

Technically the regional services were Red Button only in January 2002 and even then it was London, Midlands, South, North West and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire. It was only in the summer of 2003 when the BBC gained FTA space on Astra that all of the regions became available for the first time.

They probably could’ve got away with switching the SD services off sooner given the lack of take up and the closure date being brought forwards, more so if HD regions had been implemented earlier but it’s certainly more than served its purpose.

Hi

Just checked again. Currently thee four dummy SIDs with bbc1 nightlight on all just say '...programmes no longer available' from Monday 0600. BBC2 and all other SD feeds also say this.

SID 6411 however is the only one that us different.

In this case, it says 'BBC1 SD has now closed' with a description in the synopsis area. Radio services on 10893H remain untouched btw.

Originally on Monday, reference was made to both Freesat and sky. But today the description in the synopsis area has changed to only include the website used by Freesat, and the phone number etcc. The sky references have been removed.

I suspect all separate streams will go eventually with the rest if the labels staying there but all poined to one stream only - the one currently carrying BBC1. We will see on Monday.

Also the BBC reception page has a clock counting down which fir some reason ends at noon on Monday nit 0600. But the individual channels close supposedly at different times as follows

BBC1 0600
BBC2 0645
BBC3 0600
BBC4 0600
CBBC 0700
CBeebies 0600
BBC News UK 0600
BBC Parliament 0600
BBC Scotland 0600
BBC alba 0600
BBC RB1 0610

So at first they probably will stay separate then all be pointed to the current BBC1.

I think the EPG times are wrong and that ALL BBC channels are just set to disappear at 6am.

Channels are just referring to their "individual start up times" (e.g. CBBC at 7am and BBC Two at 6:45), but obviously such a change will likely be coordinated

with the reference to the QR code, this implies a video stream is going to be kept running. I can't imagine they'll be wasting a transponder to do this, so are they going to use one of Sky's existing DVB-S transponders to host it, thus allowing the BBC to reconfigure 10803 to DVB-S2.

I note that the "test region" on Freesat currently has both versions of BBC Radio, DVB-S and S2.

The BBC have now got all the the services they intend to retain nicely spread out over 5 DVB-S2 transponders, apart from BBC One South which is still languishing on a Sky transponder.

I can't see them wanting to convert 10803 to DVB-S2, it wouldn't really serve any purpose. Won't they just hand it back to SES/Astra?

not if they're tied into some long term agreement with SES for X transponders. If they still have to pay for it, then it makes sense to convert it to S2 and "spread the load", increase bitrates across the board, etc. It would also mean not having to pay Sky for that one HD regional channel.

Looks like the last contract was signed in 2021 so unless it had clauses to allow the BBC to hand them back, it seems they've got it for a bit longer.
