RE: GB News - TVViewer256 - 07-07-2023

It took Sky News months to reach 100,000 for its TV Debate petition, with endless plugging and on-screen promotion.

Perhaps choosing a subject that people actually care about helps?
Interestingly enough they had Mick Lynch on the other day and he supported it. Suggests it’s got support from people of all political persuasions so that probably helps.

This may be a smart move by Erron as he will bring his own creative style to GB News which could enhance its presentation and make it more attractive to potential new viewers and listeners.

For those that want the gossip, there was a bit in this week's Popbitch about this which shows that it wasn't quite so intentional or smart, though I agree it might well be in the end as you'd expect GBN to be the one of the two to stick around.

That'll probably be just down to their playout moving within the last week.

The Don't Kill Cash campaign is now being investigated by Ofcom:

RE: GB News - derek500 - 07-07-2023

If this one breaks Ofcom rules, then it would seem the Sky one definitely did. Perhaps no one complained. Oh well, it give the Twitterati something to get excited about.

RE: GB News - Brekkie - 07-07-2023

Well Sky was a broadcasting issue but something the media wanted more than the public.

GB News doing what the tabloids do and launching a campaign the public would back anyway then taking credit for it. I'd argue it's cross political and a social issue rather than political, but would be ironic, and telling, if OFCOM see it as anti-Tory and censure them for it.

RE: GB News - derek500 - 07-07-2023

....requires all broadcasters to ensure that their programmes - whatever their genre - exclude all expressions of the views and opinions of the person providing the service on matters of political and industrial controversy or current public policy.

As it took so bloody long to get 100k signatures it's pretty obvious that it was Sky who wanted TV debates more than its viewers!!

This latest appeal is again straight from the tabloid newspaper guide to selling papers. Start an appeal that the target audience are concerned about, despite the fact that the vast majority of people still have access to cash and can still spend it in the vast majority of shops.

Cash isn't going to be killed off anytime soon, The Bank of England have only just finished replaced the paper notes in the last year and now are printing the new notes with The King on it.

I do think 2050 is a bit unrealistic, I imagine a cashless UK will happen a lot sooner than that, maybe the 2040s.
