RE: GB News - matthieu1221 - 22-08-2023

They must have more gallery staff/less automation for all this compared to when they launched?

AFAIK they always had the ceiling mounted robotics since launch, probably these:

All easily controlled by their Mosart automation,  it's just a case of setting the template moves up in the system and using them

In news production,  its usually more a case of training/reviewing regularly the way shows are produced and coded by the production team,  as the segment format, style,  assets,  shots are usually chosen by the producers rather than director initially.  This can lead to lazy, limited creative choices  in even the largest organisations.

Teaching the need for variety of shots and moves, as well writing style (word counts etc) and story selection/order is a constant battle in TV production, more so in template based environments where news producers are journalists first, rather than pure visual/creative TV producers with a eye for style rather than just substance.

When a new creative lead comes in, it's often a good starting point to review what's available immediately to improve the production values  before getting into new things. Doesn't always require more staff/less automation

Worth noting that there was an apparent rush to launch, with the studio looking very much under construction in the preview videos made by some of the presenters/reporters just weeks prior to launch. I also seem to recall reading that some of the gallery equipment was (perhaps ironically) stuck in customs, so either arrived late or very last minute.

This presumably meant that there wasn't much time given to the creative elements, as they were too busy just trying to get it all working in time for their tight deadline. I think it's fair to say the lack of rehearsal time did show in the first few months. Presumably by now things have (mostly) settled down on and off screen, with staff much more experienced on the kit they're using.

As also reported in the Movers and Shakers thread, former BBC News anchor, Chris Rogers, is to join GB News as the editor of GB News Breakfast programming.

While I'm not exactly their target audience, I have always wished them success.

I pretty much disagree with everything they have to say, but surely having new players can only be a good thing.

For so long, the choice had been between the BBC or Sky (and also the ITN News Channel for a short while).

It's nice to see someone else have a crack at it, same with Talk TV.

Looking forward to what Erron cooks up, he did a great job with GMB after the mess that Daybreak was.

RE: GB News - jaycee331 - 24-08-2023

Some major technical gremlins at GB News today, not seen anything this bad since the launch weeks.  Several 30s+ drop outs to a silent black screen this morning, not on scene/content changes but during the main studio presentation as far as I could tell.

Then another drop just before 3pm, but instead of a black screen it turned into a world of static scan lines with artifacts and fuzzing and stayed that way for a good few minutes, unlike anything I've ever seen as humble TV viewer.  Patrick Christy's voice could be heard in the background, but it was jittery and illegible.  I thought my signal was busted for a moment but again, ticker all clear and rolling.  Then a long ad break and a late news bulletin before back to Patrick  and normal viewing (so far).  I wondered if that big hit was them swapping in some sort of backup to fix the earlier problems but the backup had a mismatched interface config.

I have to go out now so sadly I can't comment on whether they're fixed or not, but if anyone else notices weirdness (no, not the content, lol) this afternoon or evening perhaps they could share.

If the DJ was playing that in the club, the crowd would go wild!

What a mess though!

Feels like maybe weather interference of the uplink to playout?
